My condolences go out to the Durr family. My fond memories of Joe was at Our Lady of Guadalupe school. I was in boy scouts and the exployers with him. He was also my science teacher and was our coach for the Ramblers at O.L.O.G. He was a good mentor and teacher and always cared for the kids. May you rest in peace coach.

I have talked to Joe for the past couple of years through a weekly email ever since my Dad, Bennie Montoya, passed away. Joe and Daddy would communicate each week but when Dad died, Joe and I started our emails. He called me his little sister in Florida. I hadn't heard from him in a while and I knew in my heart that he had passed away but, not wanting to confirm it, I did not email him. Our last email was me crying to him about his cancer returning. He told me all would be well. I will miss our weekly talks. I know my heart is crying, but I also know he is in a much better place. He worked so hard to keep everything working and in good shape. Now he can watch from above as his legacy continues. Please accept my deepest condolences. I will truly miss him.

I knew Joe Durr as a child learning how to swim. Later, I had the pleasure to work with him at the Parks and Recreation Department, and finally as his Office Manager when he was Parks and Recreation Department Head. He was a truly caring person. He was always the first one to help anyone who was in need. Joe Durr and the Elks helped me and the Santa Fe Jaycees send a local infant to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis Tennessee. Today, that infant is a successful adult. Joe Durr, you were the BEST! Fly high with the Angels In Heaven!

Having been a colleague of Joe's at the City and then being a work out buddy at the Center for Living Well, I came to know Joe as a gentle man and a kind and caring soul. When I saw him at the Cancer Center recently he told me of his diagnosis, and I am saddened that he has departed the life that he so loved. My condolences to the entire family and may you find the strength to hold each other up during these days of immense grieving.
