JOHN ARMIJO Obituary

JOHN L. ARMIJO
OCTOBER 15, 1955 –
SEPTEMBER 17, 2021
John Armijo died Friday in a car accident on his way home from work.
John was a tall, slim, distinctive looking man with a rough exterior, a memorable laugh and a kind heart. He loved and respected his family and friends. If his help was needed, he was a man you could count on. He was a star basketball player at Santa Fe High and played in city men's leagues for many years, he really loved the game. An unparalleled backhoe operator, John worked in and around Santa Fe for 45 years. He worked hard every day in a demanding physical job and was justifiably proud of his skills. He knew where all the cables were buried! John was an old-fashioned traditional man who came home for dinner every night and always spoke his appreciation for it. But… he never touched a computer and refused to text. John could do everything, build rock walls, flagstone, trim carpentry, lay tile, and more. He fixed anything, and made it look easy with his charming smile and no complaints.
John was a Santa Fe native, born on Apodaca Hill to Tony and Tillie Armijo who preceded him in death. Also predeceased by his sister Belen and his special nephew Adam. John had lived in Pecos for the last 16 years with his partner Teri Quintana and longtime friend Ann Frances Nissen. His death has left a huge hole in the fabric of our daily lives.
John is survived by his brothers Abel Armijo and Diana, Eliseo (Cheo) Armijo and Olivia, nephew Ricky Romero who shared their childhood, and sister Genara (Ida) Romero, all of Santa Fe; brother Tony Armijo and Sandy of Sherman, TX. John loved his nieces and nephews so much; Angelique Armijo Ortiz, Justin Armijo, Antoinette Armijo Rougemont, Julian Armijo, Jimmy Armijo Grover, and many grandnieces and nephews. John will always be loved by his partner Teri, her children and grandchildren who called him Dad and Grandpa. He was a fortunate man to have a loving and supportive family and many friends. We are all grieving his unexpected death.
A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church located at 1120 Canyon Rd. Santa Fe, NM 87501. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church.

God bless you John Armijo. I will always remember your kindness and school days with you in Ms. Dinkel's spanish class giving us all the answers to the tests and how you hated it when she called you " Juan". God be with you Teri and your beautiful family.
