Lorene Hudiburg Obituary

BUSINESS PIONEER DIES AT 93 LORENE A. LAYTON HUDIBURG JULY 29, 1919 - MARCH 6, 2013 Lorene A. Layton Hudiburg, a long time resident of Santa Fe, passed away on March 6, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. Her birth place and date was Oklahoma, July 29, 1919. Lorene was the wife of the late Kimes Hardin Hudiburg. Always active in the business world and with a keen mind for business, Lorene and Kimes worked together in 1946 with Kimes' brother, Paul, to establish a farm equipment and Kaiser-Frazier business in Prague, Oklahoma - later branching out to handle the sale of both Pontiac and Buick automobiles. In 1956, Lorene and Kimes bought the Chevrolet business in Grapevine, Texas which they later moved to Fort Worth, Texas. The "Hudiburg" name in automobiles-in particular Chevrolet, was recognized as one of the leading sales distributors in Tarrant and Dallas counties. In addition to the automobile dealership, Hudiburg Investments was founded, a business that focused on the sale of property, rentals and financial lending. The Hudiburg Foundation was also established. This foundation made possible the educational pursuits of young people throughout the country. In addition, many of the Pawn Shop properties located throughout Tarrant and Dallas counties have Hudiburg interests. Lorene Hudiburg was blessed with a fine business mind and many loving friends and family. As stated by a good friend, "Lorene was the very happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends-and she had a wealth of friends and a devoted family. I have never known a more kind and caring individual. She was a gracious lady." The veranda at one of her homes located in Santa Fe was often the stage for many painters as they captured the beauty of the New Mexico country side. Lorene always said that, "the New Mexico landscape was her favorite." Her interests varied from her many business ventures to the arts, interior design and travel. In her free time, she enjoyed painting and exploring the arts which Santa Fe gave her many sites and subjects to select. For years she was active in many local civic organizations. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and her grandson John Hardin Hudiburg. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Hudiburg of Colleyville, grand children Todd Alan Hudiburg of Seattle, Washington, Jason Phillip and his wife Cathy Hudiburg of North Richland Hills, great grand children Hunter, Heather and Tristan Hudiburg, Dylan and Stephan Tynes, a former daughter-in-law Eleanor Williamson Hudiburg of New Mexico and many close friends. The Hudiburg Service will be at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home and Grounds with the viewing on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. The Service will be in the Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 3:00pm. Pallbearers are Joe Bob Adams, Brandyn Brownlee, Brett Chatham, Todd Hudiburg, Jason Hudiburg and Lyn Wesley. The Reverend Delbert Akins will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity in Lorene Hudiburg's name. For further information contact Kay Baker (817)656-5557

Robert and Family,
I have many fond memories of Lorene. She was so gracious and patient to teach me when I worked for Hudiburg Chevrolet and the other auto dealerships in the late 1950s and early 1960s. My sincere sympathy to you, Mattie Lou Bragg Derryberry
