MARK OBENZINGER
Born May 12, 1943 – Died October 26, 2025
Son of the late Nathan and Romana Obenzinger; nephew of the late Sophie Elias; brother of the late Ronald. Survivors include his beloved children, Rachel Cohn (Neil) and Eric Obenzinger (Erica); their mother, Stefanie Steel; his cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Reese, Clark, and Abby; his dear brother, Hilton (Stella); his dear cousin, Steven Elias (Tracy) and their sons; and his nephew, Isaac Obenzinger (Tera) and their sons.
Raised in Laurelton, Queens, Mark attended Andrew Jackson High School. He was a proud alumnus of Union College and earned an MBA at Columbia. Mark worked in marketing, then as a securities analyst at several Wall Street firms. He was also a Green Beret reservist in the 1970s.
Raised by immigrants and survivors of the Holocaust, he loved childhood summers in the Catskills. Mark believed in Jewish traditions, the critical importance of education, and the American Dream. He was devoted to his family, loved a good joke, and poured himself into the stock market, nonfiction books, tennis, art, documentaries, and life itself.
Mark was a dedicated and talented large-format landscape photographer, developing his own film and prints. He flew, drove, rafted, hiked, and camped throughout the world to capture natural beauty. He died while hiking to a sunrise photo opportunity in his hometown of Santa Fe. He would say that was a good way to go.
