NATHAN JOSEPH RILEY, SR.
1951-2022
The family of Nathan would like to express our sincerest appreciation to our relatives and friends for the love and support you provided to us following the loss of our father, grandfather, uncle and brother.
Nathan Joseph Riley Sr., 71, of Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was laid to rest in his tribal home community of Laguna Pueblo (Kawaik'a), New Mexico.
Nathan was born on February 15, 1951 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Joseph A. Riley, Sr. and Ruth E. Riley [Sarracino]. He had a strong, traditional upbringing and held his traditional ways and beliefs close throughout his life.
Nathan attended St. Francis Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio for part of his high school education. He returned to graduate from St. Pius High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He studied at the Santa Fe Community College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and took courses in Civil Engineering at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Nathan was a talented artist and musician who worked in the computer technology and engineering fields. He was a perceptive man with visionary ideas and a sense of adventure. He had a fondness and knack for discovering a variety of great music, though he reserved a special place in his heart for blues music. He had a passion for fighter jet airplanes of all forms. Nathan loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He is remembered by many for his kindness, brilliance, musical skill, and sense of humor.
Nathan is survived by two sons, four daughters and five grandchildren: daughter Janel F. Riley and her son Petyr Xyst; son Neill Riley; daughter Heather Riley; daughter Renita Young and husband Andre and their children Reanna, Danae, Chantel and Charlie Jr.; daughter Natalie Riley; and son Nathan Riley Jr. Nathan is also survived by his younger brother Joseph Riley, Jr. and wife Melissa and their children, Jovon and Tenaya; nephews Anthony Riley and Matthew Riley; the mothers of his children, Veronica Reed and Regina Montoya; and many more nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Ruth Riley, and a sister.
