SOPHIE MALCZEWSKI BACA

Sophie passed away March 3, 2021 due to complications from Covid-19.
Sophie was born May 5, 1944 in Biere, Germany, to Joseph and Helena (Zienterska) Sevtawa. Sophie's father was a Polish solider and was killed in WWII before she was born. Near the end of the war, her mother was working in the barracks of a concentration camp when she rescued a Polish solider, Kazimierz Malczewski, who had escaped from Auschwitz. After the war, Kazimierz and Helena married and he adopted Sophie at an infant age. They lived in Poland until 1952 when they were sponsored to the United States. Dad, Mom, Sophie, and siblings; Richard, Maria, and Kristina came through Ellis Island and settled in Santa Fe, NM where it became their home. Sophie was the oldest of 13, followed by 7 brothers and 5 sisters. On October 22, 1977, Sophie married Tomas Baca. They resided in Los Alamos, NM until building a home in Santa Fe in 1990. In 2002, Tomas became a Deacon and they moved to Cerrillos, NM, where he was the priest at St. Joseph Catholic Church until 2007. In 2007, they moved to Frisco, TX to live closer to their kids and grandkids. Sophie was a graduate from Santa Fe High School in 1962. Sophie was a devoted Catholic. She would help everybody and anybody in need.
She is survived by her husband Deacon Tomas Baca; children, Lisa Morgan and Mark Baca; grandchildren, Ashley and Avery Morgan, and Isaiah Baca; 3 sisters, Kristina, Cecilia, and Lucy; 3 brothers, Johnny, Michael, and Henry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers; Richard, Tony, Albert, and Frankie; and two sisters, Martha and Maria.
Sophie was laid to rest at the Dallas National Cemetery in Dallas, TX on April 9, 2021.
