SUSAN BARRETT Obituary

A beloved member of the Santa Fe community, is survived by her mother, Rosemary Mroz of Salem, MA, brothers Michael Mroz of Ipswich, MA, Joel Mroz of Boston, MA, Timothy Mroz of Salisbury, MA, Robert Mroz of Phoenix, AZ, Kevin Butler (Troy Yamauchi) of Santa Fe, with whom they shared a home for the past 18 months, sisters Karen Fay (Peter) of Westford, MA, Paula Mroz (Randy Simonds) of Caroga Lake, NY, and many nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and friends from all over the world. She is predeceased by her father, Walter Mroz, and sister, Maureen Mroz.
Susan received her Nursing Degree from Cortland County Community College and her Master of Science in Nursing from Mass General.
She spent her career as a Nurse Practitioner in the Boston area, Hawaii, Arizona, New Hampshire, and New Mexico.
She most recently opened Mountain Sage Medico, LLC, in 2022, in Santa Fe, where she specialized in Rheumatology in addition to Geriatrics and Family Practice. She worked tirelessly and endlessly on behalf of all her patients, whom she considered family. She gifted comfort blankets, some made by her mother, to her infusion patients and always made time for anyone who walked in needing Susan's care.
Susan will be remembered for her love of life, including family, friends, animals, nature, art, and Santa Fe.
She fostered and adopted cats, chickens, birds, and any creature that needed care and a home.
She was a creative soul who enjoyed knitting, sewing, card making, and many other crafts. Susan designed each project specifically for the recipient.
She was a beautiful spirit who meant the world to so many, listened first, gave input last, and made everyone feel special in some way.
We are all so blessed to have had Susan in our lives.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Berardinelli McGee Event Center, 1320 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter, 100 Caja del Rio Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87507 https://www.sfhumanesociety.org.

So sorry to hear of Susan´s passing. She was always so kind and caring. I will never forget her opening her closet to me to pick out a sweater to wear to the after prom party that I attended with her brother Kevin.

Susan Barrett was my mom´s rheumatologist. My mom passed away in 2022. We both adored Susan she was such a kind dear soul. She took the time once to go out to my mom´s car in an emergency situation without an appointment just to hug her from the distress. When my mom passed she mailed me the most beautiful card. I had not received anything like that by any of her doctors. Susan really cared and it showed. She took such good care of my mom. I will be forever grateful to have had her as my mom´s provider and to have known such a kind caring soul. My heart goes out to her family and my deepest condolences. What an amazing woman she was and it was an honor to have known her.

Susan´s death has devastated me. As so many others have said, she wasn't just my doctor, she was my friend. I am so sad that I won't ever get to see her, joke around with her, and have one of her amazing hugs. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Susan Barrett was the best Rheumatologist I ever had. She made every patient feel like a best friend. I am so deeply saddened that I don't get to have her in my life anymore as she was the epitome of a"good person." My deepest condolences to her family and may she fly high. Love Always, Rose

I will forever miss Susan. She was so good to me and I'm thankful for the time I have known her and I'm thankful that she was my Rheumatologist. She did her best to try and turn my frown upside down when I was sad about my health or something personal going on in my life. She wrote me a note for mother's day 3 years ago and I still have it. When I discovered that she opened her own practice, I was sure to schedule an appointment with her right away. She was full of smiles when she saw me in the waiting room and I couldn't wait to show her that I still had the caring note she wrote me. I could tell it meant a lot to her. I have had two favorite doctors in my life and she was one of them. I told her how much I loved her bedside manner and I'm forever grateful for the way she treated me. She treated me like I mattered and she mattered to me very much. Susan, I hope you are flying high with the angels and I hope I find a new Rheumatologist who will just as great as you were. My condolences to her family.

I'm profoundly saddened for your loss. I never met Susan but knew how close and dear she was through Paula . Losing a family member is always sad, especially when it's unexpected. Try to remember the happy times to get you through the heartache. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
