TOM LAW Obituary

TOM LAW
May 23, 1940 - February 1, 2022

Under the new moon early in the morning on Tuesday, February 1, Tom Law, a much beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend left our world and took off to the stars. He passed away peacefully at his home.
Tom was a lovely mischief man, the best kind of troublemaker, blessed with an unfair level of vitality, a quiet strength of being, a meandering, though not aimless, sense of purpose and a kind and generous heart. It's also worth mentioning that he had great hair all the way to the end, a fact he may have appreciated but never looked down on anyone because of it. Tom was Adonis, and Loki, and Babaji, but also an Ironman, in turns an eagle and a wolf. He was a poet and a thinker, and an influencer before that was even cool. He saw himself as a facilitator and a guide. He left a large and beautiful mark, and the parts of the world he touched he left better than he found them. Stewardship mattered to Tom, and he wished for it to matter to us, too. He had a knack for growing things, from a house full of orchids, to an impossible rooftop oasis in a city, to sparking a whole movement in consciousness. He also had a talent for walking into traffic without getting hit, which is both literal and a metaphor.
Tom was a co-engineer and test pilot for some of the social movements from the 60s and 70s, and was their actual poster child in the January, 1970 edition of Life Magazine in an article on spirituality. While he may have balked at that description, many in his sphere will see the truth in it. Tom is perhaps most famous for his role as the Chief of Please (a.k.a. head of security) at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival, where he played a key part in keeping the event peaceful and safe. His greater contribution was his introduction of yoga, breathing techniques and concepts of consciousness to thousands of attendees, at Woodstock as well as at other major rock festivals of the time. This had a ripple effect through two generations so far, being, if not the seed of it, the first water to the seed of a worldwide community of people who value interconnection, self-awareness and care for nature.
In 1981 Tom started the next chapter of his life and with his wife Caroline created a successful design/renovation business in NYC which thrived for the next 35 years.
Tom leaves the world his much loved family: his wife and soul mate of 41 years, Caroline Favre-Gilly Law, their son, Ian and his wife, Angela and beloved grandson
Oakley; Tom's children from his prior marriage, Pilar; Solar and his wife Renata and beloved grandchildren Karinna and Andre; Sunday and beloved grandchildren Kunja, Asraya and
Mirabai; and Jesse; Nephew Alexandre and nieces Emilie and Olivia in France and nephew Thomas and niece, Dawn.
When asked about his beleifs about the new journey he was embarking on Tom simply said 'we live on in the memory of others'. And so he will.

I bought a couple boxes of old magazines last week. The issue with Tom was one of them. I googled his name and here I am.
Tom seems to have lived a full life.
Now we just lost Charlie Kirk.

Such fun we had back in the day. The old Citroen bouncing down Hollywood Blvd and philosophies shared until dawn.
