ZARA WEINBERG Obituary
Zara Weinberg passed away from lung cancer on October 28 in San Francisco. She was 36. Zara was born and raised in Santa Fe. She graduated from Reed College and earned her PhD from Carnegie Mellon University. She was a cell biologist and a PhD researcher at UC-San Francisco.
Zara is survived by her beloved wife, Kayleigh Stevenson; her parents Richard Y and Julie B Weinberg; her mother-in-law, Catherine Sharpsteen; siblings-in-law James and Katie; nephews Sam and Jonah; uncles and aunts Doug, Sharon, Rick and Holly; cousins Cory, Megan, Chris, Iris, Talia and Sarah; and a community of devoted friends and colleagues.
Zara was a brilliant and passionate scientist. She was a courageous advocate for the inclusion and fair treatment of trans people in academic science. Donations in her honor may be made to The Trevor Project, Inc - give.thetrevorproject.org or Advocates for Trans Equality – transequality.org.
