C. Hancock Obituary

C. PATRICK HANCOCK
1933 -2009
  C. Patrick Hancock, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, entered into real life on June 6, 2009, after a three-year battle with prostate cancer.
Pat was born in St. Augustine, Florida on November 7, 1933, and grew up in Miami, Florida. He delighted in telling stories of his early days, especially alligator hunting in the everglades.
Pat was a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Golden Gate Theological Seminary, and taught junior high science and math for 32 years in the Lucia Mar Unified School District, retiring in 1994. He was known for his multiple biology collections, several of which were donated to the Santa Maria Museum of Natural History, and his neat and interesting classroom.
His defining identity was that of a follower of Jesus Christ, and he exemplified love and grace to all who knew him – often taking in people who needed a home or aiding those in need.
He made his wife of 50 years, Linda Fording Hancock,  his three children: Kim Hizey, Kristin Nickelson, and Kory Hancock , and their spouses Steward Hizey, Thomas Nickelson, and Breona Hancock, feel loved and accepted, no matter what.
The great joy of his life were grandchildren Cameron and Quinten Hizey, Kale and Luke Nickelson, and Madison Hancock.  He was never too busy to spend time with them and make them feel special.
Through many years of service, he fulfilled numerous positions in several churches, but none brought him more satisfaction than serving in New Life Community Church, especially the King's Crew and South County People's Kitchen.
A quiet man, he led by example, and was valued for his wisdom, kindness, and thoughtfulness – as well as his ability to bring order out of chaos.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents Jesse Hancock and Lois Bare, and brother Robert Hancock.  Besides the family listed above, he is survived by brother Byron Hancock of Las Vegas, Nevada, sister Joyce McCormick of Jasper, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 12th, at 3 p.m. at New Life Community Church, 990 James Way, Pismo Beach, California. A private family burial will be held at Arroyo Grande Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall~Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, Grover Beach, (805) 489-5552.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to South County People's Kitchen, 187 Moore Lane, Arroyo Grande, 93420.
