Douglas McCashen Obituary

DOUGLAS EARL McCASHEN
1960-2008

Douglas Earl (Doug) McCashen, 48, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2009 in Granada Hills, CA after a valiant, 5 1/2 year struggle with brain cancer. He remained cheerful and uncomplaining to the end. He was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. He passed with family by his side.
Doug was born in Santa Maria, CA on August 24, 1960 to Robert and Eleanor Cross McCashen. He attended local schools, graduating from Ernest Righetti High in 1978 and Allan Hancock College in 1981. He attended Cal State Northridge, and graduated from CA Coast University with a BS in Business.
Douglas moved to Sherman Oaks in July 1981 and began work at Sunkist Growers in August and was employed there for 25 years. He started work in the mailroom and worked his way up to Director of Sales Operations. He traveled all over the U.S. and Canada on business trips for Sunkist.
Douglas and Denise O'Brien were married 26 Aug. 1989 in San Pedro, CA, on the ship, "Spirit". They enjoyed their beautiful home and liked to travel, at home and abroad.
Doug had a passion for the game of golf, and wherever he traveled, his golf clubs went with him-even to Japan. He was an excellent golfer. He also had a love for music and was highly skilled on guitar. He was in a rock band at Righetti High and a jazz group at Hancock.
Survivors include his loving, devoted wife of 19 years, Denise McCashen of Stevenson Ranch, CA; parents, Bob and Eleanor McCashen of Santa Maria, CA; brothers David McCashen, wife Wendi, and their sons, Ryan and Kevin of Santa Maria, Dale McCashen, wife Norma, son Joshua and daughter, Nicole of Nipomo, CA; and his sister, Diane McCashen of Santa Maria, He was also survived by uncles, aunts, and numerous cousins.
Doug always had a smile on his face and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. A special thank you to Paul Scholar, a great friend who dedicated a good deal of his time to visiting Doug regularly in his last months. Sincere gratitude also goes out to the Hospice workers for their caring concern in Doug's final days.

Am very saddened by this news, but have a bank of great memories of Doug, Becker Bashes, and golf. Doug really did, always have a smile on his face. I am thankful to Paul Scolari and the rest of the ERHS crew for the faithful updates over the past, difficult 5 1/2 years. Here's to Doug's first birdie putt, wherever he may be. Glad to have known you Doug.

My dad just phoned me about Doug. We are so saddened by this news. I have wonderful memories of all of the good times we had in high school and in Arizona and wished that I had kept in contact with him these last 10 years. Our condolences to Denise and his family. He was a treasure and will be missed!
