Gail Davis Obituary

GAIL ANN DAVIS

1940 - 2022

Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Gail Ann Anthony Davis on November 15, 2022. Gail was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Harry and Anastasia Anthony on March 13, 1940. Her family immigrated to the United States on a quota system, when she was 9 years old, bringing with them only a trunk of their belongings. She was fiercely proud to be an American citizen.

Gail attended school in Norwalk, Ca. and graduated from Excelsior High School in the class of 1958. She was active in FBLA and Job's Daughters during her time there. She went on to study at the University of California Santa Barbara, but put her studies on hold for marriage and family. She met John C. Davis at the Norwalk Methodist Church, where her future father-in-law was the pastor. They were married in the same church in 1963. Gail was passionate about her family, and the love of her life, John, her husband of 59 years. Gail, John and the family moved to Santa Maria in 1973 to acreage on Suey Creek Road where she lived for over 50 years.

Gail enjoyed planning trips and traveling with John. She stayed active with her fellow Excelsior classmates attending class reunions and taking trips. Gail was generous with her time and talents. Gail was active as a parent supporter at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's schools, in the American Cancer Society, as a leader in Santa Barbara County 4-H, and on Santa Maria Board of Realtors. She was a realtor in the Santa Maria area for more than 45 years, getting her start at Myrna Winter Realty. Previously, she had worked in the banking industry. Gail tried to stay connected with her Ukrainian heritage through making pierogi, borsht, cabbage rolls and kutia and painting Ukrainian eggs. She enjoyed taking an egg painting class for many years. Gail was a consummate letter writer, sending hand written letters and cards to all who were dear to her for every occasion. She also wrote many a letter expressing her thoughts to businesses and political leaders. Gail was a skilled seamstress, cross stitcher and baker. She made the most amazing apple pie! She had a way of adding such beauty to the things she touched.

She is survived by her husband, John, her children, Todd Davis of San Luis Obispo Ca, and Jill Williams-Hermansen of Cottage Grove, OR and her grandchildren, JR (Kylia), Dylan (Harmony) and Chance Williams, Isabela Hermansen, US Marines CPL Lucy Davis, Leah and Liberty Davis and her great grand-daughter Magnolia Williams. And her dogs Cooper, Addy and Lily.

We would like to thank the excellent nurses and staff at Marian Medical Center for their care of her while she was there and Angie Doyle for her attention and kindness.

No service is planned. In lieu of flowers or monetary contributions, all who want to remember her can sit and have a cup of tea and write a letter to someone you care about. She would have liked that. The sun shines a little less bright without her.

Arrangements are in the care of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory. Sympathy notes and words of support may be expressed at www.magnermaloney.com.
