JACK WARE MCKEAN
1924-2007
Jack McKean was born in Nixon, Texas to Milton and Zeta McKean on October 17, 1924.
Jack leaves behind a loving wife of 40 years, Toni McKean. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Danielle and Mehrdodd Fatourchi, his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Nancy McKean, all of Santa Maria and Becky and Alan Winson of New York.
His son, Jack McKean, Jr, preceded him in death.
Jack was lucky enough to enjoy his grandchildren, Mike and Tom McKean, Tulie and Harry Winson, Shayda and Skyler Fatourchi and blessed with twin great-granddaughters, Alex and Abby McKean.
Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in Europe during World War II. He attended and played football for the University of Texas following the war.
Jack continued his love of football by becoming a football referee in Texas and California. He also became a judge with the Synchronized Swimming League in Santa Clara, Ca.
His varied careers started as a West Texas oilfield worker, an instrument tech for the Civil Service Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX, and worked for Lockheed in Burbank. He then moved to the Aerospace Division at Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1959. He completed his college education and became an electronic engineer. He transferred to San Jose and after 28 years at Lockheed, he retired in 1987.
He and Toni then moved back to Santa Maria to live their retirement years. Jack was an active member of St. Louis de Montfort Church and served as a 4th Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus. Jack received the Legacy Award for his tireless efforts over the years for the Golden State Mobile Home Owners League.
He loved serving the Mended Hearts Association and the 50+ Club of St. Louis de Montfort Church.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2007 followed by the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2007 at St. Louis de Montfort Church, with Rev. John Mayhew, C.J. officiating. Private interment will be in the Santa Maria Cemetery at a later date.
