Joseph Simon Ontiveros

1969 - 2024

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, our Lord wrapped his loving arms around Joseph Simon Ontiveros, ended his many years of pain and suffering, and carried him to heaven where he was greeted by the beautiful smile of his precious baby boy and the warm embrace of his beloved mother.

Joseph was born on July 8, 1969, in Santa Maria, California. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Santa Maria High School. After high school, Joseph joined the Navy. He proudly and bravely risked his life serving as a Navy medic, rendering life-saving medical care to the brave men and women fighting on the front lines of the Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm, at times having to take up arms and fight on the front lines himself.

After Joseph's honorable discharge from the Navy, he married his wife, Stephanie. Together they created a beautiful life and a loving home for their children Joseph, Matthew, and Vanessa. Joseph continued his medical career working as a nurse for 23 years, until the injuries he sustained during his military service took their toll on him both physically and mentally and he was ultimately forced to take a disability retirement.

Joseph was preceded in death by his baby boy, his mother Marcella Ontiveros, his sister Sofia Ontiveros, his cousin Steve Quinonez, and several other beloved family members.

Joseph is survived in life by his father, Fred Ontiveros, his sons Joseph Ontiveros and Matthew Ontiveros, his daughter Vanessa Ontiveros (Tiv), his granddaughters Marcella and Evelyn Ek, and his wife Stephanie Ontiveros; his sisters Isabel and Angelina Ontiveros, Theresa Estorga (Lawrence), and his brothers Mario, Freddie, and Thomas Ontiveros (Letty).

Viewing will be on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:30 p.m., at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, 1003 E. Stowell Rd., Santa Maria. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 414 E. Church St., Santa Maria.
