Margaret Paden Obituary

Margaret M. (Diani) Paden

1927 - 2021

On October 21, 2021, our beloved mother, Margaret (Diani) Paden, left this world for her heavenly home. On June 23, 1927 she was born Margaret Mary Bowden, the first of four siblings, to Thomas and Lillian Bowden in Auckland, New Zealand. During the second world war she met A. J. Diani, a Navy Seabee, and became a war bride at nineteen after which she joined the Diani family in Santa Maria, CA where she would live the remainder of her life.

Mom gave birth to her first child at the age of twenty and four more followed in quick succession. In spite of the busy pace of five children she juggled being a wife, homemaker, mother, and a busy social life with grace and ease. Her many friends will tell you she was one of the kindest, most pleasant people anyone had ever metwe were so blessed to call her our Mom. She seldom got flustered and passed down a robust sense of humor to all of us. Mom was a member of many organizations, passionate about her bridge groups, her service clubs and her many friends, but Mom found the most joy in her family, who rejoice in knowing she is with our savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with all the family who preceded her in death, including: her parents; Thomas and Lillian Bowden, her three brothers, Thomas, Lindsey and Gregory Bowden, A. J. Diani, George Paden her second husband and great-grandson Ryan Teixeira. She is survived by her five children; Cecilia Teixeira (Allan) of Pismo Beach, Robert Diani, Susan Ward (Don) James Diani (Teresa), Michael Diani (Marty), and daughter in law Julie Diani, all of Santa Maria, and step-daughter, Pat Peterson of Poulsbo, WA. She will also be missed by her fourteen grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren, as well as her first great-great grandchild. There are also numerous nieces and nephews both in the States as well as in New Zealand who loved and were deeply loved in return by their Auntie Marg.

A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Thursday evening, November 4, 2021 at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary 1003 E. Stowell Road, Santa Maria, California. On Friday, November 5, 2021 there will be a mass at 10:00 AM, at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 1190 E. Clark Avenue, Orcutt, CA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to 17Strong, P.O. Box 1712, Pismo Beach, CA 93449. 17Strong is a non-profit organization started by her great grandson Ryan Teixeria, prior to his passing of cancer, which provides Victory Trips for young adult survivors of catastrophic illness.

It is an honor to call Margaret my friend.
Have enjoyed her gentle laugh & kindness for more than 50 years.
How much fun it was to meet for lunch and play bridge together.
She will be missed.
