Patsyann Barthell Obituary

Patsyann Tachiki Barthell

1953 - 2024

Patsyann Tachiki Barthell passed away on the morning of March 11, 2024. She was surrounded by her immediate family and the Lord took her quickly to end her suffering.

Patsy was born in Chula Vista, California to George and Miyako Tachiki in July of 1953. She graduated from Chula Vista High School and got an Associate of Science degree in Secretarial Science from Southwestern College.

She married Fred Barthell in July of 1977, and they had two children, Jennifer and Jonathan. They lived in Chula Vista while Fred completed his Navy service then moved to Santa Maria, California in July of 1981 where they both became active at First Christian Church of Santa Maria. She served the church as a deaconess, on search committees and helped with the food pantry.

After her children were in school, she went to work for the Santa Maria Bonita Joint Union School District as an Instructional Aide working at several school sites, eventually she became a Severely Handicapped Instructional Aide and retired after 20 years.

When Fred retired in July of 2017, they moved to Sun City West, Arizona to be near their granddaughter. In Arizona they became members of Christ's Church of the Valley and lead a Bible study group.

Patsy was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in October of 2023 and the disease progressed rapidly, taking her Home to the Lord on March 11. God gave her beautiful views of spiritual realm and she was able to share what she was seeing with her family.

Patsy is survived by Fred, her husband of 46 years, daughter Jennifer, son Jonathan, daughter-in-law Jennifer (Holmquist), granddaughter Harlow, Mother Miyako, sister Marjie (Tom Johnson), sister Mary (Randy Amezola), brothers Marvin and Kevin (Miho) Tachiki, mother and father-in-law Tom & Jane Barthell, sisters-in-law Linda (Mike Orsted), Peggy Kelly and Ann (Rick Sigsby).

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church of Santa Maria on June 15 at 11:00AM. By her request it is a Hawaiian theme celebration of life.

Dear Barthell Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. We were neighbors across the street on Barbara, back in the old days when the kids were little. Many fun memories of the neighbor kids riding big wheels, playing at each other's houses, and late Christmas Eve's when we all had our living room lights on, putting together toys at 1:00am for Santa. Patsy was a great mom and neighbor. Wishing you strength and peace at this difficult time.
