Stephanie Bishop Obituary
April 23, 1947 - May 19, 2024
Santa Maria - Stephanie Lee Bishop, 77, of Santa Maria, CA, passed away on May 19, 2024. Stephanie was born on April 23, 1947 in Tucson, Arizona. A proud Air Force dependent, she grew up in Marin County, Tonopah, Nevada, Fussa, Japan, and Turlock, California.
She graduated from Turlock High School in 1965 and continued her education at Modesto Junior College, graduating in 1967 with an AA degree. She completed her formal education at UC Davis with a BS degree in Animal Science.
Stephanie's career spanned decades, serving as a Medical Technologist and Lab Scientist at Mills Hospital in San Mateo for 20 years. Wanting to leave the Bay Area, Stephanie was hired by Dignity Health in 1992 and moved to Santa Maria. She purchased a home and remodeled the interior while creating a magnificent garden in the back yard. She traveled extensively overseas, to Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. A prodigious reader, she had a very large library.
Stephanie leaves behind her brother, James G. Bishop, sister-in-law, Janice Bishop and a nephew, Jeremy Bishop. She was preceded in death by her father, Leon L. Bishop, and mother, Helen Ruth Hunter Bishop.
A Celebration of a Life Well Lived will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Shepard Hall, located in the Santa Maria Library Building in Santa Maria, California. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to a charity of your choice in her memory.

I know Stephanie from her San Mateo days. We studied German together with Betty Raff at the College of San Mateo. Stephanie organized a study group, we'd meet before our German class. The study group helped me learn German. Stephanie and I kept in touch over the years and visited her once in Santa Maria

I´m sure going to miss Stephanie. She was a delightful and dedicated friend.

Stephanie was a shining light of enthusiasm with a "can-do (anything)" attitude. When it came to plants and planting, she did not just tell you how to do things, she would come over and do it. I will always remember how considerate and helpful she was to my parents in their latter years. The world is a little less bright without her presence.
