Thomas Weldon Obituary

Thomas Patrick Weldon, Jr.

March 15, 1937 July 27, 2022

Thomas Patrick Weldon, Jr., died on July 27, 2022. He was born the youngest child, second son to Olga Giacomini Weldon and Thomas Patrick Weldon, Sr., on March 15, 1937. He was very close to his parents, especially his mother, and their relationship was his bedrock. He was raised in Santa Maria, and he was a proud graduate of Santa Maria High School and Santa Clara University. His field was urban planning by training, but all manner of construction by trade. He worked in various aspects of commercial contracting most of his adult life, and these endeavors spanned multiple companies in the cities of Santa Maria, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, and Fresno, California. He retired from this field some three decades ago, and he resided in the Carmel Area during the last third of his life.

Joining him in life (and nearly birth) is Antonia Alma Bertero Weldon who was born 9 days after him and grew up but some two blocks (Broadway) away from his childhood home on Pershing St. Besides sharing the same basinet, they attended primary and secondary school together, in addition to attending colleges (Santa Clara and Lone Mountain/San Francisco College of Women [University of San Francisco]) in the Bay Area. They graduated in 1959, married in 1960, and proceeded to have 7 children in the next decade who received their love and attention. Their last child finished high school in 1987, and they then moved to the Monterey Coast shortly thereafter.

Their life has been filled with friends and family, meals and memories, and drinks and discussions. He, like Antonia, was an avid gardener, and they adored their dogs immensely. Devout members of the Catholic Church, they attended mass daily, and they so enjoyed the Carmel Mission. Additionally, the mild weather, view of the Pacific Ocean, and proximity to the waves and sand provided a necessary panacea for their ailments. Furthermore, this location provided an easy opportunity to travel to see their parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, and friends, in addition to the family farm in Guadalupe until their health prevented such excursions. He maintained his physical and mental health until the end, and he died in peace surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Antonia, his brother (Richard), six children (Thomas [Wendy], Mary [Michael], Timothy [Clodagh], Terrence, Kieran, and Christopher [Karin]; he was predeceased by Mary Noel), sixteen nieces and nephews, and seventeen grandchildren. As in birth, they will be joined in death, and all services commemorating their lives will be held for them in time.

What a wonderful obituary. My condolences to the entire family. When Tom would call to speak to his brother, Dick, he would catch me up on his life. What a great man.

Sixty five years ago worked with Tom during the summer at the Santa Barbara County Road Department. A very smart, witty guy. May he Rest In Peace.
