Vard Roemer Obituary
1939 - 2025
Vard Alfred Roemer, 85, of Nipomo, California, died February 5, 2025. He was born in Santa Maria on March 30, 1939, to Glenn Roemer and Inez Ferini. He attended Santa Maria High School before studying agriculture at Oregon State University and completed his Bachelor of Science in History at the University of Oregon. He earned a Master of Arts in Education from California State Polytechnic College and began teaching first in Fresno and later Los Osos. He and his brother, Robert, eventually took over the longtime family business, Glenn Roemer Hardware. Together, they managed the store as Roemer's for thirty years. After retirement, he and his wife, Linda, spent their time traveling, golfing, and visiting friends and family.
Vard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading. He was a man of projects and impeccable organization. He was strong, hard-working, and generous, especially to those he held close. He loved watching football and going on fishing trips. He will be dearly missed by those around him. He lived according to his motto, "You are what you are ... Strive to be the best you can be."
He is survived by his wife Linda; former wife Kathleen Roemer; daughter Roxanne Wilcox and son-in-law Jory Wilcox; daughter Rachelle Hawks and son-in-law Chad Hawks; stepdaughter Shannon Lemons; and six grandchildren, Ian, Drew, Connor, Carson, Millie, and Audrianna; brother Robert Roemer and sister-in-law Sharon Roemer; nephews Ryan and Ross Roemer.
His funeral will be held February 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Maria Cemetery at 1501 S College Drive, Santa Maria, California. A reception will follow at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge at 1309 N Bradley Road, Santa Maria, California. All friends and family are welcome.

I worked with Bob and Vard at the old store in 1978 and 1979. Both gave me employment when I needed it and still grateful. They were wonderful bosses and people. Sorry to hear about Vards passing. RIP.

Vard was our neighbor for several years. He was a very kind person. He always waved hello and asked how we were doing. We are very sad at his sudden passing.

To the Roemer Family: Have been a friend to Vard for 70+ years. Roomed together at Cal Poly in the 60´s and shared several trout fishing adventures. Just an all around good guy. My condolences to all of the family.
