Andrew Samach Obituary

Andrew Jay Samach GANSEVOORT – Andrew Jay Samach, MD, died unexpectedly this past Monday the 8th of December 2014 in an automobile accident. He leaves behind his beloved wife MaryJane Samach and their children Carly, Zachary, and Alessandra Samach. He was always a devoted and loving husband and father whom loved his family with everything he had. He is survived by his mother Marilyn Schreiber-Kaye of NYC and sister Teri Michigan and her family of Pelham, NY. Andy was an avid boater on Lake George and Lake Champlain and enjoyed many summers with his family at both. He loved spending winters skiing during his youth with MaryJane and eventually teaching his three children to ski and love it as well. His passion laid in his photography, his favorite models being his family and most loved, as well as the many landscapes and pieces of the world he traveled to. Many knew Andy for his humor and quick wit as well as his easy going and kind character. Fundamentally Andy’s most treasured facet of his life was his family of which he was very charismatic about. Andy was a board certified physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology and employed at Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was extremely fond of the community he found there. In lieu of calling hours there will be at celebration of his life on Saturday the 13th of December from noon until 2pm at Wilson Memorial Chapel on the Skidmore College campus. To those who wish to remember Andy in a special way, a donation may be made to a college scholarship fund for the Samach children which is to be established at Key Bank, 3016 Rt. 50, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866-2903. Dear Samachs,
Twenty-seven years ago, I had emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. Andy Samach was the doctor at the hospital to whom I was assigned. He was kind, efficient and did a great job - I lived to have three sons, who are now in their mid 20s. I was surprised to read about his death and I am so sorry for your loss. Both my parents died this year and, while I am very sad, I can only imagine the scope of your tragedy.

To the Samach and Daley Families -

We are so saddened to hear of your loss and can only imagine how devastating the last few weeks have been. However, it is important to remember how fortunate Andy was to have the privilege to affect the lives of so many families in such a positive manner. He will remain an important part of so many peoples' lives. I had the pleasure of working with Andy when I was in training in Burlington. Despite how our health care system is changing, the doctor-patient relationship remains the foundation of effective and compassionate health care. As all of these heart-felt messages attest to, Andy was able to communicate in a manner that was dear to his patients. You should be so proud of what he accomplished.

Our condolences and prayers are with you.

Dear Samach family,
I knew your father and husband many years ago as his teacher and friend.
As is always the case the teacher teaches and mentors the student, and with great students like Andy, both become better for their efforts. It was strange that a few weeks ago he was suddenly on my mind. I am so saddened that his life and career have ended so soon. I have no doubts he created a wide path of caring during his journey. My warmest wishes and condolences to the whole family.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I had the pleasure and honor of working at MCHV with Andy, who also became my obstetrician for the birth of my daughter. I had the upmost respect and confidence in him and would not have had anyone else in his place. Take comfort in knowing that Andy touched many lives in a caring and professional way. My deepest thoughts are with in this difficult time.

It was my joy to meet Andy's sister Terry just recently (on a bike ride in Denmark-) where we became fast friends and covered much about our lives in just a few days, as though we have known each other all along. She spoke of her brother with such love and pride that I have no doubt that he has touched and blessed many, many lives. My heart goes out to Terry and the family, and to all who were lucky enough to know him.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Samach's passing. He was by ob/gyn when I was pregnant with my daughter in 1988. I had many miscarriages and Dr. Samach worked very hard to have my next pregnancy be a success. While I was on bedrest at 25 weeks in the hospital, he visited every day and took the most amazing care of me and my daughter. He was forever my advocate and I will be eternally grateful. When I was in my 30th week he left for Thanksgiving making me promise not have this baby before he returned. "I haven't worked this hard to miss this birth!" Of course, Thanksgiving day, I gave birth to a healthy, 3 1/2 lb, beautiful baby girl. And believe me he never let me forget it! She stayed four weeks in the NICU and came home to us healthy and happy. She has since grown up to have gotten her BSRN and works in the NICU at Mass General. Thank you Dr. Samach. May you rest in peace and may your family be blessed with their memories of you.

I had the pleasure of working with Andy during the last year of his residency and then directly for him in S. Burlington. He also delivered my two older children. I have thought about those days quite often since I moved back to the midwest 22 years ago. The days of working with him in that office are some of my best memories. Mary Jane, you have my most heartfelt sympathies and prayers.

We lost our 2nd boy to SIDS. The birth of our 3rd, was a highly anticipated, especially sweet event. The umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck. With every push, my child was being strangled more tightly, and the placenta was being ripped from the uterine wall. Dr. Samach calmly said to me, "Your baby is in severe distress. I have to use forceps, and you have to push with every ounce of strength you have. There's no time for a spinal. Between the 2 of us, we have to get this baby out, NOW!" I pushed, he pulled. Deven was quickly out, and Dr. Samach very quickly pulled the cord over his head and revived a very blue, limp little boy. I wept uncontrollably when I heard him cry. There was not even the slightest mark on his head. Andy Samach saved my child's life, and has my eternal gratitude. I am heartbroken to learn that you have lost him so suddenly, to an accident. My very deepest condolences to your family.

Mary Jane, Carly, Zach and Ally,
Your family was a light in our life when you first moved to Saratoga. Andy was at the helm, doing all that he could for the family, giving them the best life that he possibly could provide. His warm smile and engaging personality made us all fall in love with him and we loved being around him when he could be there. His children, as we can see, are an extension of his charismatic self, encompassed with the beautiful softness of their lovely mother, Mary Jane. Rest in Peace, dear Andy. Your family is in our prayers and thoughts.
