Jean Hennigan Obituary

Jean B. Hennigan Saratoga Springs, NY - On February 16, 2013, Jean B. Hennigan entered the eternal kingdom of heaven surrounded by her loving family. Born in Throop, PA, on April 28, 1933, Jean was the daughter of Frank and Mary Cuppelli Barone, attended Throop elementary schools, and was a 1950 graduate of Throop High School. During summers and upon graduating high school, Jean worked in the garment industry. Jean married Gerald (Jerry) P. Hennigan in 1953. Jerry's military career took them to Washington, DC, Alaska, New Jersey, Mississippi and Saratoga Springs where they settled upon Jerry's retirement. When her children were in elementary school, Jean entered college. She graduated with honors from both Adirondack Community College with an Arts Degree and SUNY Albany with a Bachelor in Arts and a Master in Science Degrees while always being there for her children. She was employed by RCG BOCES as a Speech and Language Pathologist for twenty years guiding children in Hoosic Valley, Wynantskill and Averill Park school systems. She was also in private practice for two years. Jean was a compassionate volunteer and board member in many organizations including Catholic Family and Community Services, Franklin Community Center, Hospice, Dorothy Welch Chorus of Mechanicville, Habitat for Humanity, Empire State College Council, SPAC, Home Theater, Saratoga Ladies Golf League, Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee, the Mayor's Senior Citizen Advisory Committee and the Heritage Area Advisory Committee. Jean very much enjoyed being part of her children's and grandchildren's lives and actively followed their academics, school sports and adult careers. Jean was also involved in politics, pursuing her desire to make the world a better place and running for public office in 1991. She was also a long-term member of St. Peter's Church, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Her parents, five brothers, and a sister predeceased Jean. A sister, a brother, and many nieces and nephews survive her. She is also survived by her husband, and children Linda (David) Papa, Karen (Jonathan) Springer, and Gerald (Suzanne) Hennigan, and grandchildren Ashley Papa (Rich) Gillis, David and Jaclyn Papa, Cameron and Alicia Springer, and Trevor and Taylor Hennigan. Jean's family extends their gratitude to Dr. Mastrianni and his staff and the staff on A-3 at Saratoga Hospital. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 22, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23. Burial will be private at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, PO Box 650309 Dallas, Texas 75265-0309 or at [email protected]. Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.

Jerry & family, I am so sorry for your loss and hope Jean is at peace after suffering from her illness for so long. I have gotten to know Jerry from the Saratoga Senior Center and have marveled over the love and devotion he has shown as her caregiver. May we all be as lucky as Jean was to have such a wonderful family.
