John Carroll Obituary

John Patrick Carroll SARATOGA SPRINGS - John Patrick Carroll had 45 years on this planet, proving himself a loving son and brother; indulging his passion for sports in general and horse racing in particular; gaining a great many friends, winning the hand of his life’s love, and raising the apple of his eye. While his heart gave out far too soon on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at all times it remained passionate, steadfast and true to family and friends. Not once did he falter, coping with occasional health setbacks while embracing each and every day he was given, never losing sight of the fact that the moments spent in the presence of those closest to him were exquisite gifts not to be taken for granted. John was a native of Greenwich, the son of Saratoga natives Mary Ellen and Dr. Bill Carroll. He graduated from Greenwich High School, then Hamilton College, where he was a brother of Alpha Delta Phi. A specialist in the sales of medical equipment, he was employed by Acclarent, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. When beginning his career, John lived in Buffalo, where his roommate introduced him to Julie DiSarno. While he always enjoyed the company of friends, his life came into focus with that introduction, and Julie and John began a courtship that, after 4½ years, led to marriage and the welcomed addition of Julie’s parents, Jim and Pat, to his family. And then came Anna Elise, now 11 and the greatest gift Julie and John gave one another. Summer days sharing tall lemonades and bags of popcorn with their daughter were the most treasured in their nearly 22 years together. Those fortunate to have gotten to know John will remember him as fervently loyal and bright, armed with a quick and sharp wit, someone who treasured laughter, kindness, intelligence and, like everyone in his family, a winning pari-mutuel ticket. John had the company of two loving siblings: a sister, Annie, of Los Angeles, and a brother, Dr. Jim Carroll, who is raising four children with his wife, Tracey, in East Longmeadow, Mass. John is also survived by several cousins, countless friends and the warm wishes of all he came to know. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Wednesday, January, Jan. 6, 2016 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Ave. by the Rev. Timothy F. Keating, C.Ss.R. Burial will be private. Flowers are gracefully declined. Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.

Dear Julie & Anna Elise,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to express my condolences for the passing of your husband and father, John. I learned of his passing via the Hamilton College Alumni Review publication. As a college friend of mine, John was a consistent ray of humor, positivity and friendliness. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Sending love....

January 30, 2016

Dearest Julie and Elise and family, I am so saddened by the passing of your dear husband and father. I had the pleasure of seeing John 3 days before Christmas at Wilton Med and we spoke for awhile, especially about his sweet Elise, whom I had the pleasure of teaching at St. Clements. He was as kind and caring as always and I feel so blessed to have had these "chance" precious moments to talk. My every thought and prayer go out to you and all of your family and John is on the Prayer Board in 4S, along with many other Angels in heaven. May the Lord give you peace and comfort at this sad time, but may He also fill you with priceless beautiful memories to sustain you each day. Julie, how I always loved "touching base" with you in the upstairs hall. Didn't we really have all the solutions to every educational problem?!!! And Elise, your beautiful crystal blue eyes (like your dads) and smile always lit up my day! I love you and send you my deepest sympathy. God bless you. Becky Stauffer Saratoga Springs NY

I am so saddened to hear this news. John was a great guy with a quick wit! I loved working with him for 5 years while I was at Nathan Littauer Hospital. He helped me to become a master ENT scrub tech and I will forever feel blessed. He talked about Julie and Anna often, the light of his life! May God bless the Carroll family.

Love and Prayers and may he forever rest in peace.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of John. I had the pleasure to know this wonderful man through work. He always found the time to ask me how my family was and spoke often of his wife and daughter. I will miss John. He was a genuine and kind man. When John would arrive to the operating room to assist us with surgery the whole room lit up. No matter what life gave him regarding his health he was always happy and optimistic

I remember John fondly as an inquisitive youngster (barely 10 y.o. if that) asking me about music and sports when our families got together back in the early 1980's... I ran into John about 12 years ago at the Supermarket in Greenwich shortly after I had moved back from California, and we caught up on those days. It was great seeing him again! To Bill, Mary Ellen, Annie and Jimmy, please accept our family's deepest condolences for the loss of your son and big brother. We take great comfort hearing he made such a loving family for himself with Julie and Elise whom we also grieve with after hearing about John's passing.
To John, go with God my friend...those of us left here will do our best to look out for your loved ones.

John and I worked together in the Medical Device arena, most recently at Acclarent. Although we only got to see each other a handful of times per year, we spoke often, and he was a friend. John's healthy perspective on business and life, coupled with an incredible sense of humor, will be dearly missed.

My sincere condolences to the entire Carroll family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

J.C.-Your quick wit, affable disposition and intelligence will be missed. I will always reflect fondly upon the good times we had at Hamilton and during your years in Buffalo. The Bills games, the trips back to Greenwich (complete with tubing, the track and sleeping in the ice box at your parents house)... all of it.
