Joseph Malatino Obituary

Joseph Malatino ARGYLE - Joseph (Joe) Malatino, age 75, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015, peacefully and comfortably at his home, surrounded by his loving family, in Argyle, NY. He was born on July 11, 1939 in Castiglione di Sicilia (Catania, Sicily, Italy) to the late Gaetano Malatino and Maria Vecchio Malatino. Joseph graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in Albany, NY, and graduated from Siena College in Albany, NY, with a B.S. in Physics. Joseph joined the Navy after graduating from Siena College, and was an Engineering Officer. After serving in the Navy, he worked as a microelectronics engineer in the private sector that produced a communications chip utilized in the Apollo moon landing. Later, he owned Malatino Industries and owned a retail rental business in the Saratoga Springs area. He was especially proud of owning and operating Dairyhaus, a local ice cream stand. During his retirement, he obtained his teaching degree, and taught high school math and physics. He also enjoyed private tutoring students in math, algebra, calculus and physics. Joseph had many hobbies that included: building two Mercedes Marlene kit cars; creating the perfect popover; cooking, baking, wine making, woodworking, and making ice cream. One of his favorite past times was to find the occasional error in college and graduate level calculus books, and informing the editors. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Maria J. Miller (David) of Saratoga Springs; sons, Thomas F. Malatino of Florida, and Michael A. Malatino of Saratoga Springs; brother, Anthony V. Malatino (Robin); and his nieces and nephews, John T. Malatino (Katie) and daughter Samantha, Ann E. Clark (Jeff) and their children Hudson and Sage, James J. Malatino (Kristen) and daughter Aria. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Graziella Malatino. Calling hours will be held from 5–7 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue (Marion Ave. and/or Route 9), Saratoga Springs, NY. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the funeral home, and interment with Military Honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to The Community Hospice, and Peg’s Angels, for the comfort and care they gave, to make certain Joseph could pass with dignity and peace, in his home. I have such great memories of Joe going back to the 1950's when I visited him and his brother Tony and the family on Myrtle Ave in Albany, and on thru high school where we were the closest of classmates.....and of all the great times that he and John (Anastas) and I shared together as we were learning about life. The split dollar bill that the three of us split up in 1958 and hoped to rejoin in future years remains in my wallet today as a memory of my dear friend.
We will all miss you, Joe

Joe was one of the nicest and most popular classmates in Philip Schuyler's class of 1959. Class treasurer, a school newpaper editor, top student and involved in just about every school club and function, Joe went on to have such a productive life. Condolences to his family.
