Kathleen Ann McGee

1949 - 2023

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Kathleen Ann McGee, life-long educator, traveler, friend to many, and mother, passed away on February 19, 2023, from Alzheimer's disease. Kathy was born in Jamesville, NY, to Richard and Olga 'Molly' (Kollar) McGee on October 23, 1949. She came from a family of educators and that was the path she chose as well. She graduated from Jamesville Dewitt High School in 1967 and, like her parents, attended SUNY Cortland, graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1971.She took graduate coursework at SUNY New Paltz and Plattsburgh and finished her master's degree in outdoor education at Northern Colorado State University in Greeley, Colorado. Her interest in outdoor education led to many adventurous trips, including paddling the Boundary Waters in Minnesota, rafting on the Santa Fe River in New Mexico, and backpacking with her sister Mary and brother-in-law Bob in the Canadian Rockies, New Mexico, and Colorado. Her adventures also included a cross-country trip in a MG Midget with her friend Ann. She toured Ireland solo, but joined her good friends Lee, Sharon, Peg, Rox, Esther, and Barb on trips to Maine, New Orleans, the southwest, China, London, Scotland, Paris, and Egypt. She also remained close to her lifelong friend Linda McCarthy, Linda's husband Bill, and their children. Kathy loved the outdoors especially gardening, photography, hiking/walking, and paddling her "Hornbeck" canoe.Kathy began her career as an educator in the Saratoga City School District in 1971 where she taught kindergarten with her friend Julie. She then moved on to teach 6th grade and finished her career in 2008 at Maple Avenue Middle School, where she became many students' favorite science teacher.Kathy traveled to Peru twice, to adopt her daughter Emma in 1987, and her son Luke in 1990. Nothing gave her more joy than raising her two children and supporting Emma in raising her grandson, Jack. She was predeceased by her parents Richard and Olga and her sister Mary Frawley. She is survived by her children Emma Robinson and Luke McGee, her grandson Jack Pond, her brothers Dick (Sally) and Mike (Paula), her brother-in-law Bob Frawley (Marilyn), and 5 nieces and nephews and their children.A celebration of life will be held in April for family and friends.
