Allison Lendman Obituary

Allison M. Lendman
Born: August 22, 1940 in Sterling, IL
Died: May 2, 2025 in Bloomington, IN
Allison M. (Hedrick) Lendman, 84, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born in Sterling, Illinois to Wythe and Florence (Lauff) Hedrick, Allison graduated from Newman Central Catholic High School and earned a B.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University. She married Robert J. Lendman on August 27, 1959, beginning a joyful partnership of love, family, and service.
Allison began her teaching career at Newman Central Catholic, where she also coached and advised cheerleading and pompon squads. She later taught elementary physical education in the Rockford Diocese. Her passion for youth and education extended into the world of drum corps, where she served the Phantom Regiment from 1971-1982, handling logistics, driving buses, and supporting hundreds of young performers. She later coordinated the DCI Mid-America competition and served on the inaugural board of Star of Indiana with her husband.
A gifted organizer and creative mind, Allison volunteered extensively in Bloomington at the Monroe County History Center, WFIU and WTIU, Meals On Wheels, and the Community Kitchen. In Florida, she continued her service through the thrift store of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Bellview Public Library.
She is survived by her children, David (Rebecca) Lendman of Spencer, IN, and Joan (John) Padawan of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren Joseph (Jean), John, Joshua, Jacob, Gabriel, Naomi, and Nicholas; and great-grandchildren Jaden, Joseph, James, and Jack. She also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband,; her parents; sister, Marilyn A. Hermes; and two nephews.
Per Allison's wishes there will be no funeral gatherings. Cremation and private graveside service only.
Allison was a proud Illinoisan by birth, a Floridian for fun, and a Hoosier at heart. In lieu of memorials, please honor her legacy with a random act of kindness.

My deepest condolences to all of her family. I had Mrs. Lendman as a gym teacher & Pom coach at Newman. I was in the class of 1973. She was a lovely lady.

I am one of so many NCCHS students who were blessed to have Mrs Lendman as our teacher & coach. She was constantly busy, and enthusiastic about everything she did, but my main memory is her joyful, positive attitude towards life. She loved her role as a teacher, coach & mom. A life truly well lived! Rest in Peace, Mrs Lendman, and thank you for being a great example to us.
