John Slothower Obituary
John Robert Slothower, 70, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024. He was born in DeKalb, IL to the late John Elwen Slothower and Theresa Slothower.
John was a tool & die maker and plant engineer at Edelmann in Dixon, IL for 34 years, and EHS Lead Consultant for Duke Energy in Raleigh, NC for over 12 years before he retired in 2019. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1972 and earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from Kennedy Western University. He loved outdoor activities, like golfing, swimming, hunting and fishing.
John was a wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved God, family, friends and country. After retirement, he loved spending time with his family, traveling and was a dedicated volunteer for the NC GOP and Convention of States.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Elwen Slothower; mother, Theresa Slothower; stepmother, Norma Slothower; and step brother, Stuart Logan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon Slothower; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Chapman; son, Josh (Amy) Slothower; 5 Grandchildren, Madison Chapman, Taylor Chapman, Morgan Chapman, Bailey Chapman, James Slothower; brothers, Jeff (Cathy) Slothower, Jesse Slothower, James (Gina) Slothower, Mark Maronde, Robert Logan; sisters, Kathy Boyle, Lisa Buesking, Deborah Slothower, Linda Deets; and many wonderful friends and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Crossroads Fellowship Church in Raleigh, NC or Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Andy George officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 AM at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St. Wake Forest, NC 27587.
