Larry Spaulding, 87, of Sterling, Illinois, passed away at Rock River Hospice on October 15, 2025.
He was born on June 11, 1938 in Sterling Illinois to Russell and Bea (Harrington) Spaulding. He was raised on a farm near Coleta, Illinois, and was educated in local schools. He attended both Highland CC and Sauk Valley CC taking engineering courses and learning a variety of trades.
Larry joined Frantz Mfg in 1959 and served in various capacities for 35 years, spending the last fifteen as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Frantz Sterling Steel Ball and Frantz Mfg. Bearing Co. He retired from Frantz Mfg. in 1994. Larry served on two Boards of Directors-12 years with Frantz and several years with an advertising company.
Larry married Sue Dusing on March 16, 1996. They enjoyed international travel and taking cruises.
In addition to travel, Larry enjoyed fly fishing, woodworking, machining parts, playing the ukulele, and was considered a jack-of-all-trades. He spent eight summers constructing a seaworthy houseboat from the ground up. He also took great pride in maintaining his yard and property.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sue, his daughters Kim (Trent) Robinson and Margo Birkner, brother-in-law Earl Hubbard, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Timothy, his sister Virginia Hubbard and brother Gary Spaulding.
Cremation rites accorded. Per Larry's wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory.
Memorials can be made to Rock River Hospice in Sterling.
