Letha Murney Obituary

Letha C. Murney
Born: October 2, 1924 in Thomson, IL
Died: August 1, 2024 in Dixon, IL

Letha C. Murney, 99, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Constance Murney in Dixon, IL. Our loving mother was born in Thomson, Il to Harry and Lottie(Quick) Gaar. Upon the death of her mother her father would later marry a lovely lady, Edith Groharing in 1930.
As a young woman Letha was known for her lovely voice and briefly trained in opera. She attended York High School in Thomson and later worked as a nurses aide at the Savanna Hospital during World War II. Our mother was a very loving lady with an unlimited amount of words to describe her. The best definition would be from Corinthians 13.4 - 13. "The Greatest Gift".
Letha married Victor E. Murney of Mt. Carroll in 1945 in Thomson at York Community Church, of which Letha's father was one of the founding members. Victor passed away in August 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Vaugh, Paul, Delbert, Donald, Darrell Gaar and sisters, Beulah (John) Smolek, Dorothy (Verrill) Miller.
She is survived by her four children, Linda(Michael) Oconnor, Montgomery, Al., Constance Murney, Dixon, Edward (Vicki) Murney, Deborah (Harry) Melroy, Sycamore, OH, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and special friends, Lilly and Annie.
A memorial viisitation will be 9:30 to10:30 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at York Community Church, 2301 IL Rt 84 in Thomson, IL. The memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. also at the church on Friday with Pastor Ruth Lyons officiating. Burial will be following all services at the Lower York Cemetery in Thomson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to KSB Supportive Care or Serenity Hospice.

Dear Connie, you know I loved your dear Momma too. I am sad that she´s gone from our presence, and grateful that she was in my life for as long as she was. Sending all my love.
