Olive "Ollie" Otto Bernardin, age 88, passed away peacefully October 25, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home.
She was born January 2, 1936 in Dixon, IL, the daughter of Harry and Alice (Beede) Otto. Ollie attended grade school in the Dixon area and graduated from Amboy High School in 1953. She married Everett Bernardin on March 4, 1956. Prior to retirement she worked as the head cook for 14 years at Kings School, a few years at Hayes Pharmacy, and then 23 years as a pharmacy tech at the Rochelle WalMart. As pastimes Ollie enjoyed gardening and yard work, and was an active member of the Lindenwood Union Church. She also loved traveling with the Vista Club to places like Alaska. The thing she was most proud of in life was her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Martin Bernardin; 2 sisters, Alice (Dale) Bowers and Frances (George) Pitzer; and 3 brothers, Charles (Teresa) Otto, James (Charlette) Otto and Richard Otto.
She is survived by her son, Ken (Bonnie) Bernardin of Rochelle; 3 grandsons, Josh Bernardin, Jordan (Hannah) Bernardin, and Zack (Cecillia) Bernardin; 5 great-granddaughters, Raven, Dahlia, Eleanor, Scarlett and Lucy; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Otto.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle. Funeral services will be at the Lindenwood Union Church at 11:00 on Thursday, October 31, 2024 with Rev. Hilary Van Utt officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the Lindenwood Fire Station. Private burial will be with immediate family at a later date at the Trinity Memory Gardens Cemetery.
