Richard Allen Hundrieser, 92, passed away at his home in Grand Detour on Friday, January 26, 2024.
Richard was born on September 17, 1931, in Chicago, the son of Carl and Emma (Weissenborn) Hundrieser. He married Rebecca (Russell) Hundrieser on December 30, 2012, at Turning Point Church, in Dixon. He was active in the First United Methodist Church in Dixon, IL.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His working life began as a heating/plumbing/air conditioning engineer in Chicago. In 1965 he became a missionary in the United Methodist Church, serving for 20 years in Nigeria, West Africa. Upon his return from the mission field, Richard became a pastor in the United Methodist Church-Northern Illinois Conference.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hundrieser; one daughter, Karen Hundrieser; three sons, Kenneth Hundrieser (Chester), Richard Hundrieser, Jr. (Karen Murrell), Peter Hundrieser (Jill Landauer); and one brother, Paul Hundrieser (Betty). He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless people whose lives he has touched and nurtured across several continents.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church of Dixon. The service will be followed by a luncheon for all who join us.
Memorials will be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. The family is grateful for the extraordinary care they gave to Richard during the last few months of life on this earth. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
