STERLING – Robert J. Nie, age 84, died Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Mt. Morris.
Robert was born on August 10, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Kimm) Nie. He married Jane Hoenicke on December 19, 1958 in Preston, Iowa. Robert was employed as Superintendent of Shipping for Northwestern Steel & Wire for 30 years retiring in 1990.
Survivors include his wife Jane of Sterling; two daughters, Shawn (Steve) Seelye of St. Louis, Mo. and Leah (Gerry) Imhoff of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Bob (Laura) Nie of Caldonia and Bruce Nie of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Margaret Wegerle and Elizabeth Baronowski both of Port Orchard, Wash.; two brothers, John (Peggy) Nie of Mesquite, Nev. and Arthur (Eulalie) Nie of North Hollywood, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Katherine (Ben) Holter, Matthew Imhoff, Sydnie Seelye, Samantha (Kyle) Horn, Andrew Imhoff, Elizabeth Nie and Seth Seelye; and one great-grandson, Landon Holter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Private graveside services will be held at Preston Cemetery Preston, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Happy Tails and Serenity Hospice.

I will miss you. I thank you for being such a good brother. Showing me the places you enjoyed. I had never been in a gambling boat. Thank you. I had never had such a variety of Fried Chicken and have not had it since. I enjoyed the phone calls and the political talks, I will miss them.
