Susan M. Weitzel, age 89, of Dixon, passed away on October 28, 2025, at Serenity Hospice Home, in Oregon, IL. She was born on July, 3, 1936 in Dixon, IL , the daughter of Edward and Alice Rock. She married the love of her life John Weitzel on June 22, 1957, at St. Patrick's Church and they were married for 60 years before John's passing in 2017. The couple were blessed with four children and Susan was the heart of her family bringing everyone together with her love and support.
Susan graduated from Dixon High School and in addition to her dedication to her family, she held numerous roles including management of Breck's Hallmark in Dixon as well as a volunteer art teacher at St. Mary's School which allowed her to use her creative talents, she finished her career as a legal secretary for the Lee County State's Attorney Office. After retiring, Susan and John were able to travel and pursued their passion for photography, going into business as Distinctive Images, selling their photos at local art shows which hang in many Dixon buildings and businesses to this day. Susan was an active member of St. Patrick's Church for many years where she served on the liturgical Commission and again used her creative talents to beautifully decorate the church for many holidays. Susan was also an original organizer for the St. Vincent DePaul chapter at St. Patrick's Church and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of her SVD clients. Those left to honor her memory include her children Joy (Todd) Pitman of Dixon, Mary (Steve) Koch of Glen Ellyn, IL, Mike (Ellen) Weitzel of Cedarburg, WI, Patrick (Jackie) Weitzel of Dixon; 10 Grandchildren Kristen (Dave) Hansen of Evansville, WI, Drew (Haley) Koch of Chicago, IL, Jacob (Michelle) Koch of Chicago, IL, Allison Koch of Chicago, IL, Alex (Amber) Weitzel of Cedarburg, WI, Dillon Weitzel of Cedarburg, WI, Reagan Weitzel, Cedarburg, WI, Emma Weitzel Cedarburg, WI, Luke (Ashley) Miller of Fort Collins, CO, and Ashley (Martin) Teniente of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren , Max and Elle Hansen, Alice Weitzel, Ari and Meara Miller; brothers Joe (Carol) Rock, Mike Rock, Tim (Connie) Rock, sister Kathleen McCright, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, brother Colonel Edward Rock, sister in law, Joy Rock, brother in law, Gerry McCright, niece Kathleen Rock, great nephew Abraham McCright.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 beginning with visitation at St. Patrick's Catholic Church from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. followed by a 12:00 p.m. mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will come after mass at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon followed by a luncheon at St. Patrick's Holloway Center.
Memorials will be established to Serenity Hospice, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and St. Mary's School of Dixon. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Condolences can be left at
