Died: November 3, 2023 in Dixon, IL
Sylvia E. Montavon age 83 of Dixon passed away on Friday Nov. 3, 2023 at Liberty Court in Dixon. She was born on Sept. 17, 1940 in Amboy, IL the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Walter) Montavon. Sylvia worked as the activity director at Colonial Village in Princeton and was the administrator at the Village Inn, Lee County Nursing Home, Heritage Square all in Dixon and also taught school at St. Mary Catholic School in Sterling. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, Dixon Rotary Club where she was the first female member and first female president, Habitat for Humanity, Lee County 4H, Lee County Young Democrats, the Amboy Evening Womens Club, Amboy Catholic Womens Club, and was named Dixon Citizen of the year in 2004. She was also the Amboy City Clerk from 1965 to 1973, a Lee County Master Gardner, and was a member and past presidnet of the KSB Board of Directors. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, sister Angela (Jim) Leibold, brother Alvin (Joanne) Montavon, and one nephew Michael Montavon. She is survived by her brother Virgil (Sue) Montavon, nieces and nephews Karen (Montavon) Henkel, Janice (Montavon) Bennett, Marty Montavon, Bill Montavon, Mary (Montavon) Parla, Scott Montavon, Rob Montavon, Jay Leibold, Anne Leibold, Rob Leibold, Liz (Leibold) Schnackenberg and many great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Wednesday Nov. 8, 2023 starting at the funeral home at 10:00 AM and processing to church for a funeral mass at 10:30 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Maytown. Visitation will be on Tuesday Nov. 7, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. A memorial has be established to Dixon Habitat for Humanity. Online condolences can be left at www.thejonesfh.com

I have so many fond memories of one of my favorite teachers. I was blessed to have Miss Montavon as my teacher twice at St. Mary´s School. She had a way of making her students feel special and love school every day. What a gift she was to so many.

Miss Montavon was one of my favorite teachers at St Mary´s many years ago. I remember her enthusiasm and encouragement to me (all her students) and her wonderful laugh Some people have such a positive effect on you, you never forget them. Miss Montavon was one of those people. Rest in Peace, and thank you!

Sylvia was a resident that I took care of Liberty Court, she was such a sweet heart and she had the funniest things to say, I am so glad I was able to be with her and care for her, her smile would brighten my day in a second. I'm going to miss you so much!!
