Died: April 24, 2024 in Sterling, IL
Van E. Hussung, 78 of Sterling died Wednesday April 24, 2024 at his home.
He was born on May 7, 1945 in Sterling, the son of Roy and Sophia (Paget) Hussung and was a graduate of Sterling High School. Van was a veteran, having served in Vietnam with the US Marine Corps from September 1, 1964 until June 3, 1968 attaining the rank of Lance Cpl. He married Elaine Richter in February 1969. She died April 20, 1983. He later married the former Theresa Carl on August 2, 1990 in Littleton, CO. Van was a self-employed commercial builder in the area for 45 years before retiring. He enjoyed a good chess game, but above all he loved taking care of his family.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa; his son, Sam (Debbie) Hussung; his step sons: Brent Clark, Nathan (Amanda) Clark, and Evan (Marie) Clark; his brothers: Harold (Joan) Hussung and Jim (Bonnie) Hussung; four grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine in 1983; his daughters Tracey in 1983; his daughter Anna Hussung in 2017; his brothers: Francis and Edwin Hussung; his sister Karen Roberts; and step daughter in law Rachel Clark in 2016.
Graveside military honors will be conducted on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 10 AM at Science Ridge Mennonite Cemetery in Sterling with the Reverend Dalmus Meeks officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted by McDonald Funeral Home.
