It never seemed like a visit to the Dr.s office, I enjoyed my trips to Dr. Hargretts office because you never knew who you'd run up with or where they were from.People came from allover and stayed very late in the night to be seen. The restaurant and pharmacy used to stay open late for Dr. Hargrett's patients. It was one big visiting party! I remember Dr.Hargrett kept his notes in his head, he remembered everybody and everything he'd ever treated them for. No such thing as HIPPA back then because everybody knew everybody's ailments and sometimes treatments/diagnosis were discussed and debated by all. Dr. Hargrett was the last Dr. that was in it for the benefit of others. I've heard people ask what they owed and he'd say " twenty if you've got it and nothing if you don't.

I was so sorry to hear of the death of our friend. My parents thought so much of Dr. Hargrett. But then, everyone who knew him did, except maybe us children when it was shot time. My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy are with all of you. Fond memories of your Dad and each of you will go with me forever.

Dr. Hargrett was the best man I have ever known. He taught me many things in my lifetime. The most important thing he taught me was to treat others as you want to be treated. He was there for me when I was 6 years old and lost. He was there for me when I graduated high school and joined the military in his foot steps. He rode with me to college to get me started on the right foot and he was there when I got married. Dr. Hargrett was the father figure that I needed and never had biologically. I will forever be grateful for the impact that he had on my life. I thank the Hargrett family for letting me be a part of their lives and Dr. Hargrett's life. Thank you for sharing him with my family and I. May God bless you during this time of mourning.

September 9, 2006

Dr Hargrett was a great man who will be remembered for his great works. He was respected and loved very much by the people of Wayne County. To some he was a hero. It's just a shame that there are so many that would have liked to have paid their last respect to him that were not able to travel out of town to do so.

Dr Hargrett will be missed by all of Wayne County.

Dr.Hargrett will be deeply missed. He has been a part of my families life for the past 60 years. My mom Ida Mae Freeman worked for him in his Screven office many years she had nothing but good things to say about him. When we would go and visit him he would always hug our necks and call us his children he was never so busy with his patients that he couldn't stop and talk.

Your dad will be missed.

With loving memories, Helen Moody

I cannot express my deepest sympathies for the loss of McKee. He was an amazing man who led his community with such pride and accomplishment. He was not just a physician, legislator, aviator and community leader, but he was loving a father, a husband and grandfather.

He made an impact on each life he touched in Wayne County over the past 68 years that he practiced medicine and the time that he served in the legislature of Georgia. It is my understanding that he treated 8 generations of Wayne County families and delivered over 500 children by lamplight, including his own.

Not only did he touch his community as a doctor, but he served his state in the legislature leading and authorizing critical legislation especially in the medical field and he should be commended for his work over the years.

My heart felt sympathies go out to the Hargrett family during this time of loss and mourning. McKee was a great man who will be memorialized for years to come for his endless self sacrifices for his family, his community, his state and his nation.

Dr. Hargrett was bigger than life. Not only have we all lost a great physican, but we have also lost a wonderful, caring, and compassionate friend. He truly spent his life putting others' welfare first. He doctored many patients that he knew would never be able to pay anything. He was my grandparents'(Dave and Dora Strickland) long time physican and friend. I remember many visits to his office in Screven with them and my mother(Alene S. Kendrick) growing up. Dr. Hargrett touched more lives than you will ever realize. The people of Wayne County and South Georgia will forever be indebted to him for his life time of caring for them. Volumes could be written about Dr. Hargrett. We loved and appreciated him. May God comfort and be with you during this time.

Dr. Hargrett was not only a physician to Wayne County, he was a friend. He was never too busy to stop and talk. There are very few people that have touched our county as much as he. I have missed seeing him at the hospital since his health declined. May God bless you that are left.

September 7, 2006

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Hargrett. My father and mother who lived in Brunswick were his patients some years ago and I met him then.

After my parents were no longer able to make the trip to see him and had to have other doctors closer by, when Dr. Hargrett would be in our area he would stop by and visit with them and act like home folks and would eat and have a glass of tea with them.

He would "talk politics" with Daddy and would tell of his victories and failures. I remember that he lost an election and said his patients didn't vote for him because they were afraid they would lose their doctor. I remember that he was also a standard bearer at a Democratic Convention.

He will be missed, but he will also be long remembered by a lot of people, some of them who never knew him, but were told of him.

For you, his family: May God Bless You and give you comfort in this trying time.

My heart goes out to you during this time of loss. Dr. Hargrett was not only a great "DOC", but had to be the most intellegent man I knew. He never seemed to forget any ailment that you ever had if you went to him for medical help.

His memory will last forever in the hearts of many in Wayne County...especially in Screven.

DOC meant so much to so many for so long. His smile, the many happy memories he leaves us all with can always comfort us. He was a Great man of compassion and LOVE, He treated you the same if you were homeless or the Governor, it did not matter, he looked at your heart, not your position in Life. Proverbs says, " A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold" Doc had that good name. Our Grandmother, Mildred Sharpe, worked with him about 30 years. A few months ago she passed at 99 years old, Doc would call her at the nursing home and it meant so much to her. Our hearts are heavy with sadness, but each one of us are better for having been able to call DOC our "FRIEND". As P-51 pilot I'am sure he felt close to God as he soared through the skies, but today we can know that he has made the final landing and is in the presence of God, probally standing proud knowing that he fullfilled his assigned mission in Life, having shared his Love for his fellow man.
