Albert Toney Obituary

Having flown 42 missions in Korea and 50 missions during World War II, Albert Voley Toney lived his life in service to his country. He retired as an Air Force Colonel in 1966, and in recent years, had written a memoir of his adventures as a member of the Flying Tigers. Born and raised in Atlanta, and an alumnus of Georgia Tech, Colonel Toney always held a special place in his heart for his alma mater. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Atlanta Braves, and liked nothing more than to watch their games on television-cheering them on to victory. He enjoyed sharing stories and conversing-via the internet-with friends and family across the country. Colonel Toney passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2003, after struggling to recover from heart surgery. He was 87. He is survived by his three sons, Michael and wife Cindy of Little Rock, AR; Steven and wife Trish of Savannah, and David of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren. Services to be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, November 4, 9:00 a.m. Visitation at Arlington Funeral Home on Monday, November 3, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to The Boy Scouts of America. Albert was a great patriot. As publisher of his book, "Every Tiger Has a Tale," we came to admire him for his courage, forthrightness and dedication to duty. Our relationship deepened to meaningful friendship over the course of the many months in which the book was in production. We are all better and safer for the service Albert provided us and our country.

I was sad to hear of your father's passing. It was both a pleasure and an honor to work with someone who gave so much to our country. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family.
