Alene Beitel Obituary

Alene Woods Beitel of Wilmington, NC died Monday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born December 4, 1931 in Effingham County, GA. the daughter of the late Allison Nathaniel Woods Jr. and Helena Perkins Woods. Mrs. Beitel was retired from the State of Georgia as Deputy Director of Audits, Department of Health and Human Services. She held several executive positions in the American Society of Women Accountants, Atlanta Chapter and was an active member in the American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants. Her loves were her grandchildren, traveling the world with her close friends, sharing her stories with others and her sons. Surviving are her children Rik Beitel and wife Becca of Wilmington, Dr. Brian Beitel and wife Paige of Huntsville, AL.: grandchildren; Caroline, Connor, Cody and Kirra; sisters; Shirley Exley of Guyton, GA., Diane Whittle of Guyton, GA. and Barbara Carter of Decatur, GA. The family will receive friends from 7-8p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5th, 2006 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 6th, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Wrightsville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tim Russell and the Rev. W. Barnwell Heyward of Huntsville, AL. Internment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The American Lung Association PO Box 40236 Fayetteville, N.C. 28309 or to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation 2131 South 17th St. Wilmington N.C. 28401. My sincerest condolences to the family and friends. Alene was Director of the Office of Audits, Ga. Department of Human Resources during the time I worked for Office of Audits. She inspired and encouraged my efforts to become certified as a CPA.
