Alice May Obituary

Alice Faye May
Springfield, GA
Loving mother, wife, and friend to 1000s of school children because of her work in school cafeterias in Effingham County, Alice Faye May died peacefully at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on January 7, 2021. Faye's Children were able to be with her in the Covid-19 ICU in person and virtually. Faye left this world just minutes after this gathering with her family to join with her husband, Buddy and son, Randy who were waiting in heaven. Faye was 83.
Faye began this life as the daughter of William and Blanche Blackston in Keysville, Ga. in 1937. She graduated from Hepzibah HS, and met her future husband, William J. May (Buddy). They began their life in the Hepzibah-Wrens, Ga. area, eventually moving to Savannah for about 10 years and finally settling in Springfield in the late 60s where most of the family life took place.
Having 5 kids and raising them with husband Buddy was hard work. But after some time, Faye found time to give much of her time to 1000s of school children through her cafeteria work. She was cafeteria manager for over 32 years until her retirement. Adults who knew her when they were students still mention those cinnamon buns!
Faye was a long-time member of Pine Street Baptist Church in Guyton and taught Sunday School for many years. She always loved Pastor Chris Roberson's sermons.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy; son, Randy; brother, William (Billy) May; and sister, Jeanette Odeen. She is survived by: sisters, Janice Reeves and Ann Thomason; children Barry, Jerry, Teresa, and Rusty, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
An indoor church memorial service will be held at a later date. Faye will be buried next to husband, Buddy and son, Randy in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah
