Calfry Harris Obituary

Calfry Harris - SAVANNAH - Calfry Harris, 92, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Emma Dean Eunice Harris, died Thursday evening, February 20, 2014, at Hospice Savannah. Born in Bristol, Georgia, he was the last of nine children of the late Lester Harris and the late Leecy Hodge Harris. Mr. Harris was an active, longtime member of First Freewill Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1961. He had a servant's heart and always greeted people at church with a smile and an I love you! Mr. Harris was a devoted Christian who read the Bible several times from cover to cover. He retired from Dixie Crystals after 27 years of service as a granulator operator and liquid transporter. Mr. Harris enjoyed his family, gardening and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline McSwain Harris; one daughter, LaFayne; one son, Lanford Denney Harris; one step-son, Ronald Eunice, and one step-grandson, Michael Eunice. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Emma Dean Eunice Harris of Savannah; two daughters, Genell Phillips and her husband, Bobby, and Jawana Wigley, all of Savannah; one son, Henry Kennon Harris and his wife, Billye, of Savannah; a daughter-in-law, Sherrie Arban Harris of Savannah; one step-daughter-in-law, Carolyn Eunice of Bristol; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning at First Freewill Baptist Church conducted by The Reverend Michael L. Locklear. Interment will be at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery near Bristol, Georgia conducted by The Reverend Steven L. Hughes. I know that I don't need to tell you what a sweet and caring man Uncle Calfry was. Although I will miss him I know he is in a wonderful place, and where he desires to be. He will forever remain in my heart. My thoughts, my prayers and my love are with you all. May God Bless You.

Mr. Harris was Doug's neighbor and friend for years and we will always remember him for his friendly smile and love for everyone. Our sympathy goes out to the family and prayers for comfort at this time knowing Mr. Calfry is in the presence of the Lord.
