Calvin Mars Obituary

Mr. Calvin M. Mars - Savannah -On July 14, 2006 at 9:30 a.m., Mr. Calvin M. Mars made his transition to heaven to be with the lord. Mr. Calvin M. Mars was born on January 29, 1957 in Savannah, Ga. He was the only child to the late Calvin M. Mars, Sr. and Delories Johnson. He attended Chatham County Public Schools. He graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School in 1975. Mr. Mars also was the lead tuba player for the Beach High Bulldogs Marching Band. Mr. Mars has been a member of the United House Of Prayer For All People from birth. He was also chosen by our deceased leader Sweet Daddy McCollough to become one of the 500 #2 elders. Mr. Mars or Stinker as we would say served faithfully in his capacity in the House of Prayer. He was requested to play throughout the kingdom by our deceased leader, Sweet Daddy McCollough, and present day leader, Sweet Daddy Madison. He was a legend, one of the best trombone players in the United House of Prayer for All People. He played his horn with such heavenly sounds of Zion. He was employed with Great Dane Trailers for 14 years and continued with Asphalt. Calvin M. Mars Jr. leaves to cherish a devoted mother and father, Delories and Rudolph Johnson; sons, Antwon Small, Dwayne Hall, Stephon Wiggins, all of Savannah, Ga., Calvin M. Mars III, of Atlanta, Ga., Danarrah Peoples of El Paso, TX; daughters, Semetria Woodley, of Atlanta, Ga., Amanda and Jasmine Rouse, of Norfolk, Va.; wife, Stephanie Mars; brother, Gregory Brown and sister, Dianna Johnson, both of Savannah, Ga., 15 grandchildren and three special nieces, Brittney, Courtney, and Taylor. First off, my condolences go out to each of you with the Calvin Mars' family. The lord did a wonderful job passing the instrumental gift to him which in turn inspired others to play like him including myself. I can only smile because the lord now has his lead horn player in his band!

Calvin and I grew up together on 47th Street and attended Beach High School together. I remember the days we played on Cann Park. Stinker was very funny and enjoyed having fun. He will be missed, but to you the family, he has gone to be with the Lord and He will give you the strengthen needed to go on until you meet him again on the other side. My prayers are with you during your time of bereavement.

We have been friends since what seems to be the beginning of time in and around the House of Prayer.

How deeply you will be missed.

The sound of your horn, that wide smile, hardy handshake, and always a kind word to follow. Those Saints gone on will welcome you home to the sound of that sweet trombone

and what a time that is sure to be.

My family and I will miss you.

Elaine,

I knew I recognized this name and I had to express my sincere condolences. I know how close you and Calvin were and I hope you are placing your faith in your higher power for he knows best. Tell your son to be strong and just pray about it. It was really good to run into you last year even though a sad occasion. I hope it's ok that I addressed you here; I know you two were good friends. He was one of the nicest people; always pleasant. If I wasn't going to be out of town, I would surely pay my respects. I don't know the family, but God Bless all of you too!

Your friend for life!

"Cadalac Mars" as I first met Calvin, was more than an inspiration in many of our lives. It was he who lead me to play the tromebone that saved my life. He always had an encouraging word for me - even when I wanted otherwise. God in truly building the right Shout Band in Heaven.
