I was much saddened to read Bunky's death notice in this morning's Times. He made great contributions to television heroism in his design of the first OpenNewsrooms for CNN in Atlanta and Washington. He established a prototype and the model for hundreds of broadcast and cable t.v. news sets. I will be grateful to him forever.

Teddy--
I'm so sorry about your dad...even though most of my memories of him are from awhile ago, I'll always remember his great sense of humor, among other things. I remember when we went to Big Sky in eigth grade he was being hilarious at dinner the first night we were there...its weird the things i remember from those days. I'm sorry about not making it yesterday...i really wanted to be there. Anyway, just know that I'll be keeping both you and your mom in my prayers.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Bunky's passing. Our family owned and ran City Athletic Club in the early 90's and that's where we got to know Bunky. He was always smiling and so interesting to talk with. We will always remember his kindness and thoughtfulness, when our sister Jeanne died in 1999 Bunky and Andrea sent us food,a longtime southern tradition. Bunky was a true southern gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andrea and Teddy.

Bunky and I were partners as The Helfrich-Briles Partnership, Architects on Hilton Head Island and Atlanta where we designed many homes, Chart House Restaurants in Savannah and Hilton Head and were the architects for the first CNN buildings in Atlanta and Washington, DC.
I will always remember Bunky as a terrific partner and a great friend through those eventful years.

Dear Teddy,
You have constantly been in my thoughts and prayers over this past week. Even with your father’s passing, I am glad that I can reflect on the good times I spent with you and him. For me, memories of your father at home, at the lake, and at the Turner ranch will always serve as models for kindliness, selflessness, and hospitality. Your father was a very accomplished man, but for all of his accolades, his greatest achievement was raising a son like you. Please don’t ever forget that your dad loved you and was proud of you. If you need to talk, remember that I am only a call away.

I met Bunky in 1979 during the early days of building CNN, and, in the 1990's, worked with him on the location and design of CNN International network production centers in Atlanta, London and Hong Kong. He was a terrific guy and a pleasure to be with on both business and social occasions. A real Southern gentleman. My deepest condolences to the Helfrich family.

Andrea,
My sympathies and support are with you in your loss. You have been as good a wife as there could be......patient, supportive, loving, and the courageous shepard of Bunky's care these last few difficult years. You have praised his life in just the way I think he would have liked. May you now take joy and comfort in your son, in happy memories of your life with Bunky, and in all you've done for family. Please give my condolences to Teddy as well.
All my love,
Karen
