Charles was a loving father and husband, life-long Savannahian, small business owner, and real estate broker. Charles was born on E. 37th St. in 1927. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 at the age of 17 and was deployed to the South Pacific during World War II. He returned from war and attended the University of Georgia in Athens where he sang in the Glee Club and was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He then moved back home to Savannah where he became a practicing real estate professional working for Mercer Realty. In 1958 he opened his own real estate business, C.A. Perry Realtor, Inc. Throughout his life he was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He served as President of the Sertoma Club in the late 1970's through mid-80's and was President of the Savannah Theater Company in the mid to late 1980's. His passions were real estate, being of service to others, and dancing at the local shag club or whenever and wherever he had a chance to move his feet. He enjoyed surfing and walking the beaches at Tybee Island and Hilton Head, fishing, and entertaining friends and family in his home. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Rosa Martin Perry, his parents Charles Alexander Perry II and Daisy Mae Waters, his brother, Thomas Haynes Perry, Jr., and his wife of 41 years, Dianne Gnann Perry. He is survived by his daughter Simona Lee Perry and son-in-law Ernesto Brown Barquero; two nieces, Suzanne Adams (Rick) of Port Wentworth and Gaye Williams (Chris) of Richmond Hill, and one nephew, Thomas Haynes Tom Perry, Jr. Visitation will be Monday, December 7 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Yesterday in Walmart I saw a man who reminded me of Charlie, which brought back how every now and then Charlie and I would find each other at Walmart. He was always cheerful, and walked with a bounce in his step. I will never forget him, and pray he is looking down on us with approval.

I was thinking recently about when Charlie was in the Navy. He was very young and of slight stature, yet he was a tough guy in his own way. Surely he let the other sailors see his pugnacity right off the bat. After all, he grew up on the streets of Savannah, right? Also it is worth remembering that he was on the boxing team in the Navy. He stepped up, and he showed 'em all! Thank you, Charlie, for being such a big part of my life.

I am so sorry for your family in the loss of a great man. I also began my real estate career with him at Perry Realty in 1973. My family purchased & sold several home when he was with Mercer Realty and also Perry Realty. Our family had great respect for his honesty, and service, Simona I just found out about his passing and wish I would have known in time to attend visitation & service. I was working with him when you were born he was so excited & very proud of their daughter. He will be miss by many people that knew him and used his service as a Realtor.

My condolences to you, Simona (and to Ernie too) on the passing of your father. Though I never had the pleasure of meeting him, from your characterization of his traits and demeanor, he must have been a wonderful man. His light lives on, obviously, in you. lewis
