CSM Doyle Obituary

CSM Robert Michael Doyle (USA Ret.), age 79, passed away on June 20, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born in Charleston, SC, he grew up in Holly Hill, SC and has lived in Savannah since 1963.

After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1963, he resumed his college education. However, his passion for service to our country and the Army called him back to duty and he reenlisted in the Army Reserves where he rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major of the 11th Special Forces Group (Airborne) out of Ft. Meade, MD. He proudly wore the Green Beret, was a qualified jump master, attended War College, served in Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, and many missions between. He also trained with the British SAS where he earned his British jump wings. He earned two meritorious service medals and the Legion of Merit Award. He retired after 35 years of unwavering service to our country.

In his civilian life, he retired as the District Manager for Commercial Credit Corp. Later he worked for Great Dane and Critz Auto Group.

Raised in the Methodist church, he attended St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 154, the Savannah Yacht Club, where he served on the Board of Stewards, and the Savannah Golf Club.

His love of country was only surpassed by his love of family. He was predeceased by his father, James Bruce Doyle and his mother, Jennie Lee Gardner Doyle.

Surviving are his loving wife, Terri Godfrey Doyle; his children, Robert Michael Doyle, Jr. (Sara), Christopher Bruce Doyle, Amanda Godfrey Cutler (Will), and Christopher Donald Godfrey (Janna); grandchildren, Robert Michael Doyle III, Charles Ridley Doyle, Abigail Elizabeth Cutler, Samuel Neil Cutler, Ava Lee Godfrey, and Riley Elizabeth Godfrey. Also surviving are his brother, James B. Doyle, Jr. (Janet); his sister, Lettie Jo Patterson (Gary); his ex-wife, Cindy Barfield; and several nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Interment will be in Holly Hill Cemetery in Holly Hill, SC at a later date.

The family suggests remembrances be made to The Green Beret Foundation, 14402 Blanco Rd., Suite 101, San Antonio, TX 78216 and on-line at TheGreenBeretFoundation.org

Terri, You and family are in my daily prayers, Mike was one of a kind for sure, and I was blessed with his true friendship, over the last almost fifty years. He was my first team Sergeant, and I was always proud to call him my Sergeant Major. He always gave his best to all he served with.

Respectfully: Commander Sergeant Major Doyle

Thank you for your service to our country and for all your sacrifices both professionally and personally. You will dearly be missed by your family and friends.

Sincerely,

The Lackey and Patrick family
