Daniel Mercer Scott SGM (Ret.) - FAYETTEVILLE, NC - SGM (Ret.) Daniel Mercer Scott, 85, of Fayetteville, North Carolina died on Friday, September 6, 2013. He was an Army veteran. Dan retired from the Army as a Sergeant Major, Special Forces and was a member of Ashlar Lodge #98 of Florida for 60 years. He was a avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was born June 13, 1928 to the now late, Oscar and Ellen Scott. Dan is also preceded in death by his wife, Helga Scott, his sister, Millie Fetzer and his brother, Harold Scott, both of Guyton, Georgia. Dan is survived by a son, Sam Scott of Waynesboro, Virginia; his grandchildren, Des Scott of Virginia and Jennifer Scott of California; grandchildren, Liam and Ariel Scott and Shylynn and Alisha Hart, all of Virginia; and his niece, Edwina Fetzer of Guyton, Georgia. The funeral service and burial will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake with military honors.
