My heart is heavy with sorrow as I have just found out about my second mom on Charlton Street. I am filled with gratitude for the most beautiful person who graced and walked on God's green earth. I love you and yours my dear.

May God's Holy Spirit provide comfort and peace to you all "Shirley, Bubba, Poody, Dinka, Winky and Cream." My sister Vanessa and I were just talking about Ms. Essie Mae last weekend and we just found out about her going home to Glory - today, a week later! But know that she is just fine resting safely in the "Bosom of Jesus" and doing what she always did, taking care of those who need it. She was viewed by all of us, Sandy, Jody, Vanessa (and Ricky before he passed away in 2014)as one of the "Best Mothers" of East Charleston Street, along with our Mom, Catherine, Ms. Carrie, and several other, who loved us kids and who protected, encouraged and disciplined all of us as we grew up. She was a "Woman Warrior for Jesus" and that will be how we will remember her. Know that we love you all and that we deeply loved Ms. Essie Mae, as one of our "Best Other Mothers." My condolences to the Battiste Family Mrs. Essie Battiste is such a loving person. She always wore a smile and spoke kind words... Always the same, her mannerism and her beautiful personality gave off the brightest light.. You will be missed Mrs. Essie Battiste but you will live on because many will keep you alive in their heart. God bless your sweet soul
