Dear Kurt, Helene, Carole and Sister D,
I was sorry to hear about Aunt Helen. She was a really nice person. I spent most of my childhood Summers in Savannah and I remember Helen, Catherine, Gertrude and Sister D sitting at Gertrude's kitchen table laughing and carrying on. I have fond memories of Savannah when I was a kid. We lived in Atlanta, but I always considered Savannah my real home! Helen and her sisters were all nice to me and it meant a lot to me when I was growing up. My love to all of you. You had a great mother.

Dear Carole, Helene and family,

Your dear Mother took care of two generations of hungry girls in our family. She was just a sweetheart with a teriffic sense of humor. I can remember how she and my aunt Rena slung hash and laughed at Cathedral when I was a student and my daughters Angela and Dana loved her at St. Vincent's. I'm sure she is having something to do with the Banquet being prepared for her now! What a lady!! She will be missed by so many! You are all in our prayers.

Love,
Linda Johnson Davis

Mrs. Balcom was my grandmother's best friend. They laughed together for decades and worked together at St V's. I grew up in awe of their friendship and hearing stories of how they so gracefully navigated the good and bad of life...and Lord knows there was plenty of both. I'm sure she and Marie are up there laughing and carrying on as I write this. Rest in peace.

To the Balcom Family,
Your Mom/Grandmother is/was a great lady that I first met when attending Cathedral in the 1960's. Over these past five decades, I would see her when I visited Savannah/Tybee and she would know me even if it had been one or ten years since we had last seen each other. Our greetings were always warm, and for me a touch of the nostalgic past. I will sorely miss her, my Mom, and my Dad at the American Legion on Bingo night.
Sincerely,
Larry and Melodie Brady

Helen and I had a special relationship most of my life and I am 65. She always greeted me with a kiss and hug and told my she loved me and called me "darlin". I know she called everyone "darlin", but it made me feel special. There are so many stories to tell that I should wait to tell them maybe at the reception at the legion. I will miss her at St. Michael's and at the legion for bingo but most of all I will miss her smiling face and exuberant personality. She and my Mother, Helen Beranc Manucy were great friends, and as long as Helen Balcom was alive, my own Mother Helen was close by. Good Bye Sweet Mrs. B Love Billy Manucy

To the family of Ms. "B", I extend my heart felt sympathy. I worked many, many days in the kitchen with her from 1968-1972 and she would get on me about why I was "assigned" to kitchen detail but was always glad to see me. She was a sounding board for a lot of young women at St. Vincent's. Well I know you are probably preparing meals for the crowd upstairs. Know that there could never be another Ms. "B"., your are gone but will never be forgotten. Elaine T. Williams

Dear Mrs. B;
Who would have ever thought that a punishment to a brand new SVA freshman by Sister Fidelis for growing a sweet potato in her locker would start a lifelong love and friendship of such a wonderful LADY. After being assigned to you for my detention, and having so much fun cleaning with you, I made it my goal, and on Awards Night in my Senior year, you handed me that perfect attendance reward for never missing a detention in all 4 years. Unfortunately, I didn't get to work in the kitchen the last year, someone thought it would better improve my knowledge by making me write the dictionary!!! But our friendship grew when Kurt married Judy and our families kind of intertwined thru the years. Then when you and Frank moved across the street life was complete with all the family functions. Taking you or bringing you home from Bingo was an honor and lots and lots of people on Tybee vied for that honor! You will be missed Mrs. B, but you will never be forgotten! You left us with such a wonderful Legacy.........your Family!

Eternal Rest Grant Mrs. B, Oh Lord and let the perpetual light shine upon her. We know she is happy being with Frank and Bubba.

All our Love

I knew this day would eventually come. But, it is never easy. She was, without a doubt, the most beautiful, gentle, loving, caring, spunky, lady I have ever known! Even after I was no longer her "daughter in law", she NEVER treated me any differently. My heart is breaking knowing that I will never see her at Bingo again! I love you, Helen, and I will never forget you. RIP, sweet lady, and say hello for me to all the ones already there in heaven with you.
Love you,
Margie
