Henry Chafin Obituary

Henry Nemo "Bucky" Chafin, Jr.
Tybee Island, Georgia
Bucky passed away peacefully in his home on Tybee Island, surrounded by loved ones. The people that knew him best, knew that he had a big heart, he was generous and loving, yet could be stubborn at times. He'd give you the shirt off of his back, always willing and eager to help anyone in need. Bucky loved Tybee Island, and dedicated his life to making it the best place on earth, he was proud of his hometown, and his own little slice of heaven. He, along with several others in the community, financed and built Jaycee Park. He spent multiple years coaching little league baseball at that park, which was truly a great passion of his. He will be missed by all of those he greatly impacted, a major father figure in the lives of so many. He is now reunited with his beloved mother Grace Odom Chafin and his two sisters, Georgia Griesbach and Phyllis Andrea Chafin. The family will hold a memorial in his remembrance at a much later date. The family asks that should any friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his honor, in lieu of flowers.
P.S. Thank you TIFD for all the lift assists over the years.

Bucky worked with and for me for many years. He did have a big heart and would do anything for you, unless he disagreed with what you were doing. He was always fair, and took his job responsibilities very seriously. I do know he loved his family very much. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Everybody always wanted to play for Bucky he was the coach for the Jaycees on Tybee Island Bucky he always had a great baseball team I think any young man who lived on Tybee Island back in the seventies played baseball for Bucky always went on the trips with him to Six Flags went white water rafting but on the other hand I didn't play for Bucky I played for bills Grill but bucky always treated me like I play for his team he always would take me on the trips with him I remember one time he took me and my uncle to Kmart bought both of us a double barrel 410 so we could learn how to shoot skeet and go marsh hen hunting. I have so many great memories as a child he was a really big impact in my life.

I came to know Bucky when he was a teenager working for my Dad´s ice company. The work was hard but Bucky was strong and could carry 100 lb. bags of ice with ease. He remained a family friend throughout his life. I especially enjoyed get-togethers during the Christmas season when Bucky would come for holiday dinner. We would reminisce over the old days, and laugh about the good times and crazy times. Christmas will never be the same. R.I.P. Bucky.
