Bert had a heart bigger than Texas. I remember when I was 16, my uncle Willie Sauls borrowed Bert's car for me to take my driver's license test in. Bert never said no to anyone he could help.

Dear Uncle Bert, Where can I start this---well, let's start on the side of the road one Sat. night in 1961 coming back from Bailey's, S.C., Murray Synder, Gail Sapp, Charlie Cunningham and myself had a flat tire and you stopped and helped us and you have been a friends ever since 50+ years. I am going to miss you "Uncle Bert", we gave you that name after we all married and had children. We gave you that name for OUR children. You always called Gail, Mary, Jan, and myself" sister".
We all loved you, you were there for us when we needed to go to a family reunion, wedding, funeral, graduation or any other thing we needed to attend and either we didn't have a date or husband couldn't be found.
I will never forget every St. Patrick's Day all we had to do was show up in the lane off Bull ST. and you was there with the car, trunk open and all the liquor you could drink.
Rest in Peace, we will all see you on the other side sitting there with mama holding her hand.
Peace and Love,
Faye

Wallace, John, and Family,

So sorry to hear that John is no longer with us. I enjoyed him so much the last 25 years that I lived at Tybee Island and later at Lake Hartwell. He was a true friend and was my link with our past in Hardeeville. We enjoyed sitting at Rascals and discussing school years at Hardeeville. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Bert,
First of all I am thankful and at peace knowing you are in Heaven.....but I sure am gonna miss you and our weekly chats and lunches at Larrys. Thank goodness I still have tons of voicemails from you so I can still hear ya voice when I am really missing you! There are so many memories of so many fun times spent together and I thank you for them all. Thank you for always having me "under your wing" and for looking out for me - you have been there thru the good and not so good times. I am so thankful that I got to see those beautiful blue eyes and hear ya tell me you loved me one more time - so thankful. I will always be known as one of "Bert's Babes" and I will wear that title proudly! I will miss you so much! Thanks for loving me and my family and for always keeping us in your prayers! Not sure which joke you told first in Heaven but I am sure you had a good one!!! <3
