Joan Chu Wong

Joan Chu Wong - Tybee Island -Joan Chu Wong, 71, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. She was a native of Tybee Island where she and her family owned and operated T.S. Chu's Department Store for over seventy years. When locals and longtime customers made their regular visits to Chu's, they could expect to see Joans smiling face and engage in lively conversation. She made a difference in many people's lives because she was able to see the good in everyone she met and was always willing to help others regardless of the need. Later in life she found her greatest joy in being the doting grandmother to her two grandchildren, Sarah E. Wong and William L. Wong, III. Other survivors include, daughter Lisa Wong Butler and her husband, Thomas E. Butler, Jr. of Tybee Island; son, William L. Wong, Jr. and his wife, Alison E. Wong of Savannah; son, Timothy C. Wong of Tybee Island; sister, Mola Chu Jung of Tybee Island; brother, Bobby Chu of Savannah and niece, Terese M. Jung of Tybee Island. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with the Reverend P. James Costigan and the Reverend Patrick O'Brien officiating. Pallbearers: Philip O'Dell, Alan Burn, Francisco Valdez, Carlton Blair, III, Christopher Joe and Leland Hayes.
