John Diamond Obituary

John A. (Jack) Diamond, 89, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 peacefully at home under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc. surrounded by his wife, Margareta Ames Diamond, and family.

He was the son of B. F. Diamond and Helen V. Flynn Diamond. Jack lived most of his life in Savannah. He graduated from Benedictine Military School, Class of 1947, and served in the United States Army in Japan during the Korean War. After discharge from the Army he attended Southern Tech in Atlanta and received a degree in Civil Engineering. He returned to Savannah and started working for the family business, Diamond Construction Company, until his retirement. In his spare time Jack enjoyed boating and water and snow skiing. His favorite hobby was singing with the 13th Colony Sound Barbershop Chorus. In his later years he was privileged to sing with Savannah's "World famous Crabettes". He loved working in the garden and tending his camellias at his home at White Bluff. Like his father, he received many blue ribbons at Camellia shows in Atlanta and Savannah.

Jack is survived by his wife Margareta Diamond; his children, Helen Diamond Samadi, Candi Diamond, Kelly Diamond Wolfsheimer, Michael Diamond and John Diamond (Brandi); and stepsons, Dirk Ames (Carroll) and Jason N. Ames. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

When he meets St. Peter he'll be asking if he knows a certain song of the 1920's and 1930's. Jack never missed an opportunity to get together and do some singing. We'll miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 PM on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church. A Rosary Service will follow at 6:00 PM.

The Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 8, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church followed by a Luncheon in the parish hall.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Dr., Savannah, GA 31406, the St. James Scholarship Fund, 8412 Whitefield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406, or to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

Even when he could barely stand, he always had a kind word, a smile and a song in his heart. I'll never forget him or the wisdom and advice he shared with me. I feel lucky to have known him, even if it was for a short while. I hope heaven has a music section.

The world-famous Crabettes lost a valued member when our Jack passed away. He sang such funny songs which kept us laughing and knew as many songs as Emma Kelly, the lady of 6,000 songs. Jack, you will be sorely missed for a long long time. Love, Polly

Even though I only met Jack and Margaret a few short months ago, It was such a pleasure of meeting Jack, Margaret you should feel very blessed to know you were able to take care and keep Jack comfortable until his last breath, he is resting now. May God bless his family..
